Fence distance?
Does anyone know how many feet a fence has to be from the street? We live on a corner and would like to extend our fence? (We live in the town of Islip) TIA

Re: Fence distance?
I would suggest calling the town office to find out. I know that there are rules about distance and size in relation to the distance...for example, the further out you go (getting closer to the street) the shorter the fence. Might not hold true in all towns but definitely check it out.
Sorry - I know it's not helpful - I just can't remember what it all was when we were looking at it.

Def check with the Town you live in. I believe the last poster is right about the height as it gets closer to the street because you are a corner property.

Re: Fence distance?
Call your Town Planning Office. Streets and corners, even neighborhoods have different zoning laws regarding structures on property.
I know in Mt Sinai in the gated communities, you need the complex board approval and then it can't be more 100 sq ft and must be 3 feet away from the prop. line on all sides. This is for a shed, but you get the idea that you need to call the Town.
