feeling guilty about taking medication
I am sooo sick and beyond miserable. Even though my Dr gave me to Ok to take robitussin and tylenol I feel beyond guilty and my mom keeps telling me how she was sick when she was preggo with me (over 25 yrs ago) and she didn't take anything....so I'm getting the guilt trip from her.
anyone else feel like this? I don't want to get sicker by not taking anything, but I don't want to be hurting the baby

dont feel guilty- you are taking care of the baby by taking care of yourself.

I totally know how you feel...I was in the same position, didn't take anything, and got so sick that I have now been on antibiotics for 1 1/2 mos. because I cannot get better. If your Dr says it's OK, I'd take it.

I was feeling so crappy my midwife actually gave me a prescription. I tried battling it myself for over a week and a half and couldn't. So, I gave in and took antibiotics. Felt better in 3 days! Totally worth it.
So don't listen to anyone and do what's best for you! Feel better.

My mom did the same thing to me..... She was beyond unhappy when she found out I was taking Tums..... let alone anything else.
I gave up telling her when I wasn't feeling right.

don't let your mom get to you...a lot has changed since they were parents.
If your DR gave your the ok, then listen to him....unless mom went to med school too

No she didn't go to med school 
I keep trying to tell her a lot has changed, but she doesn't want to hear it.
I've even lost my voice now from coughing so much...i just don't want this turning into pneumonia and I hate that she is making me feel like I'm already being a bad mom

she's in NY right..... What she doesn't know won't hurt her!
Or if you have an open relationship, tell her you appreciate the advice, but you are going with the DR rx to make you feel better!

Yup she is in NY....we do have an open relationship but sometimes she gets offended if I shoot down her advice...so I'll just keep telling her that the Dr. said its ok...and I don't think the Dr. would tell me to take something that would hurt the baby.

I feel the same way when I take something. One of my nurse friends keeps reminding me that I am hurting the baby more by letting my sickness get worse!! As long as the Dr said okay...than don't feel bad!

Don't feel guilty as long as your doctor okays the meds. Back when our mom's were pregnant some of the meds we see today (and are taken by pregnant women) did not exist. Do NOT feel guilty! We all have our burdens to bare while pregnant. My mom had chicken pox when she was PG with me, I inject myself with a blood thinner (that my mother should have been using when she was PG, but it didn't exist nor did she know she even had a problem). At some point most encounter some discomfort at some point, if your doctor can offer some relief - take it.

I agree. Don't feel guilty. I had bronchitis twice in the first 4 months!  So i had to take the zpack and 2 weeks ago i had a sinus headache that lasted 4 days... so i gave in and took sudafed.
You have to take care of yourself just as much as you have to take care of the baby.

Only you know how sick you feel. Don't let anyone make you feel bad about doing what you need to feel better. One dose might be all you need to get some rest and feel better. Not sleeping and stressing is probably worse for you.

OMG- tell your mom to give it a rest! What is it about moms and their need to hammer the "Well in MY day....." into our brains?!
Throughout my labor, my mom actually COMPLAINED that I was able to get the epidural when I was *just* 4 cm..... because when SHE was in labor she had to wait until 8cm.
But I digress.....
If your Dr. OKed it- then it really is OK. I was on 2 rounds of antibiotics for strep throat, and then Tylenol with CODEINE- all before my 2nd trimester.
My DD is fine. Believe me, the stress hormones produced from being really sick could be just as detrimental.
Take your meds and feel better!!!
