Feeding Question

DS is taking 5oz bottles 5x per day and then one 5.5oz bottle before bed (he sleeps 5-5 1/2 hours through the night). He currently weighs 10lbs 7oz and is 6 weeks old.

How much was your LO eating at around that age?? The ped is so vague about feedings. DS is finishing his bottles, doesn't really leave anything behind and sucks them down like it may be his last meal. He isn't spitting up at all and doesn't burp much but I'm going to give that one to the Dr. Browns bottles... but throughout the day he will blow what appears to be spit bubbles and we're not sure if that is formula coming back up... he's also kind of gassy and for the past few days has been pooping A LOT...

So I have no idea if he's getting enough or too much or if I just have nothing else to think about.

And another sort of related question does anyone else's LO HATE being burped?? He freaks out when we burp him in the middle of feeding but then will let us burp him with out a problem when the bottle is done.

I never thought feeding was going to be the thing I obsessed over when I had a baby!!

At that age DS was eating about the same if I remember correctly. It was about that time (maybe a week or two later) we bumped up his bottles to 6oz.

He also HATES being burped. We try to burp him mid-bottle and he tries to throw himself back so he's laying down and get his bottle back. He screams and cries and I usually just give in.

DD is eating the same... She rarely spits up and yes she does not like burping in between... She will push the bottle out when she doesn't want to eat! I've been told you can't overfeed.. If he's not spitting up I wouldn't worry about it!

DD started making spit bubbles around that age, and someone told me that's when they start producing a lot of saliva so they have to get used to it.

As for burping, Sophie always screams when we take a mid bottle burping break. I can't tell if its bc she's super hungry or had gas pains. You can try putting a pacifier in his mouth- they can burp thru it.

DS was eating about the same at 6 weeks old. He's now 9 weeks old, (weighs 11 lbs, 3 oz) and eating 5.5-6.5 ounces per bottle, and 6-7 bottles per day. He's a hungry baby and that's fine!

I'd been obsessing for weeks about whether I'm feeding DS too little or too much. My ped said to try to stay around 32-34 ounces per day, but I was struggling to do that and DS was clearly still hungry. I saw a ped gastro this week and he said that for a 2 month old baby, he writes an rx for 40 ounces of formula per day...but that if DS wants to drink 10 gallons per day and can keep it down to feed him! Since I've stopped obsessing over how much and just followed DS's cues, he's a much happier baby.

As long as your DC is not vomitting he's fine. If he's still crying after a bottle, give him more.

The bubbles sounds like normal baby drool. DS blows bubbles all day long! And most babies don't like being burped. You wouldn't like someone taking your food away mid-meal either! It's all totally normal!
