Feeding/gas
My daughter is 5 weeks old and on similac ready to feed. We were using this in the hospital and then tried the powder at home but she was getting constipated and very gassy so the dr said to stick with the ready to feed.
About two weeks later she was gassy but not constipated just very fussy so we started using gripe water which was working great for her. Well two days ago she suddenly stopped burping good and instead was passing a lot of gas and very fussy. Today she is still fussy and is take g very long to burp and not really passing gas. Should I try to switch the forumula to something else? Hate seeing her in pain...Tia!!!

Re: Feeding/gas
I posted something similar not too long ago, if u do a search u can see some responses to me. I switched dd from similac advance powder to similac sensitive and give her gas drops with every feeding. she still has fussy times and she still has gassy days but its been almost 2 weeks since the switch and i definitely see improvement. Maybe try switching from gripe water to the gas drops and try it with every feeding? Also dd takes a looong time to burp... but i patiently just work it out of her - bc she will fuss/scream until i do. I think at this age, their systems really need to work themselves out and it takes time. When i switched dd's formula, she started improving - then had a couple of rough days - then improved again. Those rough days were hard not to second guess myself - do i switch her again? Call the pediatrician again? Etc... but i decided to just stick it out and really let her body adjust to the new formula. i doubt this was any help to u but just wanted u to know i understand, its hard to see them so fussy - u just want to make them happy. You're not alone, hang in there!

i wouldnt switch. everything she is going through is very normal. she's an infant and her digestive system is still developing. we all have good days and bad ones and so do they. i think too many people jump to change things when their infant is gassy but in the end its just a phase that goes away in a few weeks. IMO as long as shes not crying from it - shes not really in pain. she doesnt understand the feelings of bubbles in her tummy so she wiggles around and stretches and whines a bit. our ped always told us that it was normal and that it was worse as a parent watching then it was on the baby. we did try switching and it only made things worse. only switch if theres a reason for it - shes continually crying, wont eat, projectile vomiting, blood in her stool... IMO just being gassy isn't enough cause ALL infants get gassy and the change in formula is a two week adjustment period as it is. if you leave it be she might be over it in 2 weeks on the same formula and you dont have to deal with all of the other issues that arise from switching (like constipation, changes in appetite or stool, changes in quantity consumed, second-guessing..etc). if you have to do something possibly change the type of bottle or nipple. for us we tried switching formula and bottles. in the end we went back to the original formula (also Similac Advanced) and changed to Dr. Browns bottles. the bottles helped way more than the changing of the formula. but in all honesty if there is no real issue other than gas, time will be the best thing for her. just give it some time. good luck!!

Re: Feeding/gas
The rtf is less gassy. We did the rtf in hospital then switched to powder. DD was fussy with both so we tried sensitive. That worked for a bit until she started arching and grunting so bad. She eventually moved to aliumentum and the arching stopped. She still fusses and is gassy. I put gas dropped in each bottle now.

I had this issue with DS. We switched him to similac for gas & fussiness because he would constantly cry from gas pain and spit up alot. His dr.recommended we continue with formula and add a tiny bit of cereal to his bottle to see if it would help because of acid reflux. So far he hasn't cried in pain with gas. He does fart alot but he doesn't spit up so much anymore.

What bottles are you using?? Maybe try Dr browns (if you aren't already) for a few days and see of that helps.

Glad to hear I am not alone...we are using dr browns already and I have noticed that she is really only uncomfortable and fussy if she doesn't burp and this is when she starts to fart a lot and seem miserable. Sometimes we try for a half hour to get one burp out and sometimes we try that long and nothing comes out. Any suggestions?? Tia!

Do you think that I should go against what the dr said and just change the formula?

Re: Feeding/gas
i also only use RTF. i had DS on sim sensitive and that didn't work, then i switched to alimentum (doc said to try it out) and it worked great for him.
Edited b/c i saw your doc said don't switch formula... if that is the case i would stick it out for a few more weeks and see what happens.
