Police say woman killed in DWI crash

A woman making a left turn in Hicksville was killed late Thursday night when her car was struck by a black Ford Expedition driven by a man who police said was drunk.
Sarah Fitzsimons, 21, of 460 Marie Ave. in Baldwin, was killed in the accident at the intersection of Thorman Avenue and North Broadway. An 18-year-old female passenger in her 1999 green Saturn suffered internal injuries and is being treated at Nassau University Medical Center, authorities said. Her condition has not been released.
Nassau County Police said Fitzsimons was turning left onto southbound North Broadway when her car was struck by the 2001 Expedition being driven by Bobby B. Sodhi, 37, of 40 Hart St. in South Farmingdale.
Sodhi was arrested and charged with second-degree vehicular manslaughter, second-degree vehicular assault and two counts of driving while intoxicated. He is scheduled to be arraigned Friday in First District Court in Hempstead.
**My brother, a Nassau County Police Officer, was the first to respond to this accident. He called me this morning and was pretty upset (which is rare b/c he is "used" to these things b/c of his time on the job). He said they worked to get this girl out of the car for two hours (w/ the jaws of life) and then the EMT's worked on her all the way to the Hospital in the Ambulance but that they couldn't save her. I feel so bad for her family... this is just tragic**

My brother said when he got out of the car that he had not one scratch but that he could barely walk b/c he was so gone.
If there will ever be a day where I don't have to hear about these stories anymore- I swear, I'll never be sad again! And I'll never complain about anything 
But I don't think that day will ever come.

ETA: The legislation needs to change. A fatality resulting from a DWI/DUI needs to call for a murder charge.

I know the precedent is set, but I don't think it is common practice yet to charge with murder - I think the standard charge is still manslaughter.

So infuriating that the guy was driving drunk - and he got to walk away (even if it was in handcuffs).
