Well PRICE depends. Generally the prices are fair, but sometimes they will be slightly higher than a supermarket - especially when it comes to the fact that supermarkets can run insane sales.
But VALUE? Well.. think of it this way.. you can go to Pathmark and get some hothouse tomatoes that were grown God knows where, picked while green and shipped here using tons of gasoline.. and gas ripened to make them appear red. You will get them at a lower price than you would get some locally grown, naturally ripened tomatoes that were picked on local farm and are being sold by your Long Island neighbors. Better price? Yes. Better Value.. not in my book!
Also - the more you go to farmer's markets and get to know the stall operators.. the better. They sometimes save things for you or give you a little repeat customer break!
