Re: Family Reunions?

My family used to have one every year for a long time. And it was BIG - cousins - second & third cousins- it was great!
There were different places, but the one I remember best and I think we went to for the longest time was a farm up in NH. It was called The Inn at East Hill Farm and it was awesome. They had lots of activities - horseback riding, water skiing (we always went in the summer, but I know the place has stuff in winter too). They'd have scavenger hunts, dance nights, mountain climbing. We would mostly take the whole place over, but sometimes there were some other families there.
A lot of our family were from Maine, NH & NY so this place worked. I think it was about a 6 hour ride from LI. I'm pretty sure they have a website if you're interested.

Re: Family Reunions?

we used to do one every year a "Cousins" reunion. Because most of our relatives live either on LI or upstate NY, we would have a HUGE BBQ at someones house. its was so much fun! Chat Icon

Re: Family Reunions?

My DH's family does one every 5 years. People are spread out all over the country now but mostly NY, CA, IL, WI, MA.

They rotate the cities. First time it was here on LI... must be at a large hotel with catering. Last year it was at the Hilton in San Diego. Trandportation is always a problem once people arrive and we need things to do for all ages.

They are thinking of Chicago for the next one.

First night was meet and greet and casual dinner. Next night was in a meeting room, catered. They showed old home movies, displayed old pictures, had a pinata for the kids, and my DH sang a few songs from his CD.

DH's family does this every year, in fact, they are having it next week, but we can't go b/c DH is in the EMT Academy Chat Icon

Anyway, they rent a house on St. George Island in Florida. His grandparents pay for it, so they picked the location (closer to them since they can't travel much) and they rent a big house (at time 2) and everyone comes from all over the country. DH's mom is one of 5 and they all have children (and now SIL has a baby as well)

About two weeks before, his aunt sends out a GIANT list of who needs to bring what, the FLA people and the GA people bring ht emost, we would usually just have to make a quick grocery store run when we got there. That takes care of breakfast and lunch. Then all each family picks a night and makes dinner for everyone. It gets very competitive Chat Icon

I love it. It is so relaxing!! We go to the beach and hang out and drink beer, its great.

Now I am even sadder that we aren't going!

Re: Family Reunions?

DH's family does one about every five years. They usually have a huge bbq type thing in Connecticut in August. They start notifying family members about six months in advance so that people can make travel arrangements. He has family all over the country.

My uncle has a big clambake every year in July and that has almost the whole family on my father's side get together. So that is my family reunion.

Re: Family Reunions?

A lot of families are now doing family reunions on cruises. Since it's a large amount of people it's considered a group so they get group rates on the cabins, amenity points and some even go for private parties.

My family's version of family reunions is we all see each other at someone's wedding.
