Fall favorites

What are you looking forward to making as the weather gets cooler?

It's 80 degrees here today and I'm kind of sad that I can't start some comforting fall cooking!

Re: Fall favorites

I've been treating it like Autumn since mid September!! LOL

I'm big on roasts in cooler weather. There is something really compelling about a nice oven prepared meal - a golden chicken with crisp skin, a beautiful medium rare roast beef or the scent of garlic from a pork roast cooked low and slow..

And soups - thick potato cream soup with thick pieces of bacon, a creamy butternut squash soup or a hearty vegetable alphabet each served with homemade bread. I love breaking a fresh loaf and watching the fragrant steam rise up.. and then dropping a dollop of fresh creamery butter onto a chunk and seeing it melt almost on contact.

I like to take my time in the winter - I'll stand over the stove stirring a beautiful risotto to a perfect texture. I'll cut butter and leaf lard into flour and roll out my own pastry dough for tender, flakey pies - both savory and sweet. I'll knead dough and wait patiently for it to rise. I'll make my own Mexican hot chocolate on the stove with high fat cocoa, cinnamon and raw sugar. I'll make bananas foster from scratch and pour it over a fresh batch of ice cream. Slow, hand made, fresh and rich.. those are my buzz words for cool weather cooking...

Seriously. My mouth is watering just reading that Chat Icon

Now my apple crisps and pumpkin pies seem so mediocre, lol. I also love a nice butternut squash or pumpkin soup with some cinnamon. LOVE the fall.

I want to try Beef Bourgunion (sorry, can't spell)

I love making pumpkin and squash based recipes. Last year I got a TON of squash from my food share but haven't gotten any yet.

Made a roast chicken last sunday - YUM

Mostly since I am home on the weekends in the winter, I like making a slow cooked meal for sunday supper. I also love making soups of all kinds.

Will continue to try to improve my homemade baking - bread and treats.

It's not as much the cooler weather but also the tendency for us to be home more often. We tend to be very busy in the summer - mid october or so.
