fake teeth
weird question.
im missing a tooth, well two actually. i lost one on the right side and its reshaping my mouth i.e. making me get crooked teeth, so i want to get the other side filled so the same thing doesnt happen.
heres my Q: thats not covered by insurance is it? its considered "cosmetic"?

Re: fake teeth
it's cosmetic, but you could always ask your dentist to do a mock submission to insurance to see what it might be. kind of like getting a quote....if it causes you pain or gives you trouble eating, they might be able to claim it differently.

Re: fake teeth
I don't think it's covered by insurance unless you get the tooth pulled and have the implant put in right after.

Re: fake teeth
If you are getting a bridge- insurance will cover (at least partially)- especially if it's affecting other teeth- then it's not cosmetic anymore. If you want an implant- you have to pay for that- insurance won't cover implants...

I agree w/ this. The fact that it's shifting your teeth should make it a necessity rather than cosmetic. I would call your dentist's office and see what they say.

Re: fake teeth
If your claim gets rejected you can have your dentist submit an appeal with a letter stating it is not for cosmetic reasons...your dentist can go into detail why it is not just cosmetic.

Correct. I was missing 2 molars, one on each side of my mouth. I got a bridge on one side because they needed to do a root canal on the molar next to it anyway. I got an implant on the other side because the two surrounding teeth were perfect and I didn't want to mess with them for a bridge.

Re: fake teeth
I am getting impants for 2 teeth and insurance is covering 60% of it!
I have been trying to get them to cover it since I was 18 and found out I was born without two teeth. The dentist saw it in an xray and because there were no teeth pushing my baby teeth out, those two baby teeth didn't fall out until I was 25
The impants are $3-4k each, they would cover a bridge, but that has to be replace every 15 years or so. I didn't want a bridge finally this year I was going to go for the bridge and my dentist said let's try one last time to see if they will cover it and they did!!!
I'd try having your dentist write another letter - it isn't just cosmetic though because your other teeth are shifting and you are probably losing bone mass (I have to have a bone graft on one side before the implant can be put in)
Good Luck!

Re: fake teeth
I had a tooth pulled and now I have a bridge covering the space. My insurance covered the bridge.

That was the same for me!! No second set of baby teeth, so when they fell out in my late teens, early 20's, there was nothing left to fill that space. I'm insurance didn't cover it for me. I paid for my implant out of my own pocket.
