Failed my test..........
I failed my 1hr glucose test so bad that they aren't even sending me for the 3hr test. They are sending me right to the endocrinologist. Is that normal????

Failed my test..........
really? maybe after a certain number it's considered GD? Why wouldn't they at least give the 3 hour a shot?

Re: Failed my test..........
Try not to freak out....... my SIL had GD, and she did just fine. The pain of the shots and everything is worth it in the end. IT does suck, but if you follow all the rules and take your medications correctly it will go away after you give birth. Sorry about the diagnosis....it will get better!

I'm so sorry! I would definitely ask your OB if you can go ahead with the 3 hour. If you fail that, then they can refer you to an Endo.

Re: Failed my test..........
Happened to me with my DD. When I went to the endocrinologist they gave me a week to control my sugars through diet alone and it simply wasn't enough. I went right on insulin shots four times a day. I was VERY upset at first but honestly, it was not as bad as I thought it would be and it became very much second nature to me. As much I was dreading insulin shots, it really made managing the GD soooooooo much easier. My DD was born healthy and fine and my GD was gone even before her birth.
You will be okay, just remember............it's only temporary. If you have any questions feel free to FM.
ETA - The insulin shots don't hurt surprisingly. In fact, the finger prick to test your sugars is worse IMO. If they give you insulin I promise, it's really not terrible at all. I survived.

Because if its too high there is no reason to do the three hour, you have GD. My number was crazy high, the OB told me there was no chance I would pass the three hour and with a number that high they send you right to an endocrinologist. They don't mess around with high sugars.

Thank you for the words of encouragement and your experience. I was freaking out earlier because it didn't make any sense to me, but now it seems to make more sense. I

Oh you're welcome. Trust me, I freaked out too.........and cried, A LOT. But the panic of it all was way worse than the reality if dealing with it. Like I said, it was manageable and temporary which helped to make it more tolerable. You'll be okay, and maybe you may luck out and just the dietary change alone with be enough. Good luck!!!
