failed glucose test
ok so i failed my 1 hr glucose test by 3 points. I am begging my Dr. not to make me do the 3 hr (I almost fainted the last time I had to do it). Has anyone ever failed and not have to do the 3 hr??

Re: failed glucose test
I failed my one hour by one point and the doctor made me do the 3 hour. They just wanted to rule everything out and make sure that I wasnt a candidate for gestational diabetes.

you have to drink this sugar drink 1 hour before they take blood. The 3 hr. test is horrible because you have to fast, you can't leave the lab for the entire 3 hours!!! It's awful!

Re: failed glucose test
I had GD when I was pg with DS. I could not even drink that stuff, so they made me eat a carb/very sugary breakfast. I did not have to repeat the test but I started going to a Maternal/Fetal medicine doctor and seeing a nurse who monitored me once a week.

So what happens if you do get GD? What do they do when they follow you each week? I'm nervous.

Re: failed glucose test
Well, first I started going for diabetic classes and the maternal/fetal medicine doctors office. I met with a nurse and they told us about our diets and who we had to test our sugars 4 times a day. After that I would come in once a week to go over my diet and numbers and if they were bad, then they might consider putting you on insulin. I never had to I controlled it with diet. Then I would get a bio physical profile each week, which is a sonogram to see if the baby is gaining weight to quickly and also a non stress tests. Nothing scarey at all.

Re: failed glucose test
I failed by 2 points and had to do the 3 hour. I had to fast for 12 hours and then they took fasting blood, I drank the drink (ew!), then they took 30 min./1 hr./2hr/3hr bloods. It wasn't fun and I'll be up front about it. I took my mother with me. This time I passed but my 1 hour was on the higher side, after which it dropped off. Good luck!

Re: failed glucose test
I think some drs will let you re-take the 1 hour if you didn't fail by much. They will just tell you to drink more water and fast before the test for better results.
See if your doc will allow this.
Good luck!

I failed the 1 hour by a few points as well and had to take the 3 hour. I passed with flying colors.
