Fabric for Chair Re-upholster
I have six dining room chairs that are in desperate need of a makeover! I'd like to re-upholster them myself but I have no idea where to begin. Has anyone done this before? Any advice on where to go in Suffolk for fabric?

I've never done this before, but I know that Joann's in West Babylon has lots of fabrics there.

Re: Fabric for Chair Re-upholster
I did this! I got the fabric at http://www.fabricmill.com/ in Plainview. They have a H U G E selection.
The cushions on my chairs were fine, so all I really did is remove the old fabric and attached the new fabric with a staple gun. I would say its a two person job bc you have to be able to pull the fabric taut before you staple it.
Good Luck!
These are some old pics but here you go...

Re: Fabric for Chair Re-upholster
We did it ourselves. My mom got me new foam 3 inch thick to really pad up the chairs b/c the old foam was 50 years old and had hardened. Try the fabirc mill. Alternatively create and barrel also has fabric. In September they have their annual fabric sale. I got my fabric from them b/c of the sale.
This is what we did: Removed the seat Took off the layers of old fabric (this was difficult b/c there were 4 layers of fabric and these chairs were 50 years old) Removed the old foam - just peeled right off Took the seat form and made a template on the foam with a sharpie marker. If you need new foam you take the electric carving knife and cut out the foam from the template. Then we took the new fabric and measured and cut the fabric. To do the corners we cut a line at the corner to reduce the overlap...like making two small triangles for underneath the seat. We used a staple gun to attach the foam to the seat. We then used a scizor to punch out the area where the former screw holes were located. Then we reattached the seat to the chair. Repeat for the rest of the chairs. We did it in one night. My parents helped us do it. HTH
