Eye Doctor Appt

DS is 4 yrs old and not a huge fan of the doctors. Especially when they touch his face a lot and HATES getting eye drops. I can never get his allergy drops in his eyes.

Anyway, his teachers just suggested getting his eyes checked and wondering what an eye doctor does for a first eye check that young.

Thanks!

D went over the summer to the doctor at Lenscrafters. it was a female and she was great with her. Even the nurse before hand, where they did the tests really was good. It is really him looking into the machines. She was boarder line needing glasses for now. She was honest and said that her eyes are taking a little longer to focus but they are and she didn't push for glasses which I liked. I go back next year and see. She did say by the time she is 9/10 she will definitely need reading glasses.

I can also ask an aquantince of mine who she brings her daughter to. Her daughter and D are BFF's and has been wearing glasses since she is 2 I think.

I take my son to Dr Levi and Long Island Pediatric Opthamology & Strabismus. They are awesome. We have been using them since he was born (preemie). He was prescribed glasses at 1 year and he is now 2 1/2 yrs and on his 2nd pair of glasses. They are extremely patient and know how to work with kids.

Where do you live? I have brought both my boys to a pediatric optomologist.

Are you looking to find out whether or not they need to dilate his eyes for a routine first exam?
I was wondering that as well. Does anyone know?

yes, they will dilate for the first exam. Its really the only way they can get a really good look at their eyes.

Re: Eye Doctor Appt

Oh I think I read this wrong. Thought you where looking for a place to go.

At the place I take my boys they first bring them back and put drops in their eyes and give them a small exam. My kids hate the drops, but it's quick. Then they have to sit out in waiting room for a bit. Then they get brought back to see doctor who does a full exam. They put a video on, have a dancing animal in the corner, lights will turn on and off. Stuff to get them to look in certain directions when they are little. The place I go is very good, but you are there for a while. Waiting for the drops to work doesn't help. They have toys to play with, so the kids are usually okay. Plus I always do morning appointments. Their first appt that day if I can get it. The afternoon wait could be awful if they get backed up for the day.

Re: Eye Doctor Appt

Thanks ladies! Especially for the recommendations, but I'm in NJ so wouldn't use those doctors. I know which eye doctor to use, but was wondering about the drops and how they test them that young.
