Extremely angry...

So Monday last week, even though it was Labor Day, I contacted my sons speciality pharmacy for formula as they are open 365. I placed an order 2 days ahead of my typical order date because I saw a storm coming and even though it wasn't heading to NY, you never know. I get very worried I won't have baby items so i always order extra formula diapers and wipes if weather doesn't look good or something. So that was Monday, I figured it would be shipped Tuesday and I would have Thursday. Nothing Thursday, I called Friday said where's the formula, I'm told my formula was bumped, f-ing bumped because people in Florida needed their orders, like I get they need to get supplies, but 1 if you see a hurricane coming and need medication or whatever from a specialty pharmacy, don't wait for the last minute. I have no sympathy for people that wait and expect it on demand, I ordered ahead knowing there could be a delay. So I blow up at them Friday but I have a little leeway given I ordeeed slightly head. So I'm told it will ship Monday, ok fine. I call today to get an update on tracking given I just opened my last cab and it will last me to tomorrow evening. I'm informed by my pharmacy rep that they are a florida based company (even though they have a Long Island office with a 631 number) so to me, how am I supposed to know they are in Florida when I call a 631 number. I'm now told I won't be getting my formula for a month and I should have called sooner. I've been on hold now for 15 min and have screamed my head off at anyone that gets on the phone. I called in advance, my son NEEDS his formula as his primary nutrition. He's 8 friggin months he can't just eat a cheeseburger over here!!! I can't just got to cvs and buy. If it was something like alimentum that insurance was paying for, i would just go buy it and submit for reimbursement but I can't..... im infuriated.... I have no idea what to do

Call your pediatrician and your GI or allergist and ask if they have samples to hold you over.

A similar thing happened to me - a few times, there was a problem at the pharmacy and I wasn't going to get it in time. The first time, my GI gave me a few cans - this was actually when she was in the hospital for RSV, and they had no Neocate, the doctors office was closer than home so I only had to leave for a short time. Another time, Neocate sent me 1 can.

Also try calling your local pharmacy. They were able to give me cans that someone hadn't picked up, or someone else was able to wait, something like that. We picked up at RiteAid, so any pharmacy may have some.

Good luck! At 8 months my daughter was still not eating solids, so I know how frustrating/infuriating this situation is, especially when you've done everything in your power.

That's terrible! I would try calling the manufacturer. Maybe they'll be able to help you out.

Re: Extremely angry...

I would call your ped, gi, local hospital, and local pharmacies. With that said, at eight months my kids were eating some solid foods. Have you received the clearance from your ped for foods or water?

I understand that you are upset but yelling at the people over the phone is not going to make them inclined to help you. Also, have you considered that it might not be the consumers in Florida that waited until the last minute but the company's decision to fulfill those orders prior to these people losing power and internet?

I am not sure what your child's specific needs are but at 8 months he might be able to tolerate something different than he was a few months ago. Maybe you should try calling your pediatrician and ask what other options there are.

Yes, he definitely eats solids, he loves food. But he also only eats them still 2x daily. He has the food allergies so we are going slow with him, but he still depends on the formula to actually fill him up and that's his primary source of food. He will drink 3-4oz of water a day with his meals.

His GI is over an hour away from me and You can only leave a voicemail, not actually speak to a nurse, then they call back. so I'm going to try calling the hospitals near me, great idea! I already called my pharmacy they can't get it.

That is unbelievable. What brand or are they mixing something up for you? Your GI probably has samples. We used to get Elecare at Walmart.

I imagine there are other places to get the formula from. They can't be the only one. Did you look on the internet?

They might have a local call center but their fulfillment center/warehouse might be in Florida. If that is the case there is no point in screaming at anyone - they simply have no way to get the formula to you.

I would try to call the manufacturer.

Re: Extremely angry...

We had this issue with dd 1's neocate, and a small local pharmacy was able to get 2 cans from their rx supplier. It took quite a few phone callls before we found a pharmacy that was able to get it. Our GI then called in the rx. Our GI had run out of samples; that was the first thing we tried. We paid like $100 for those 2 cans and then were later reimbursed.

If they have an active twitter account, I would tweet about it. Lot of companies are quick to respond to tweets. Also post on their face book page. GL! Hope you find the formula before you run out of it.

Is the pharmacy mixing the formula or is it just selling you the formula? There must be another pharmacy that can get the formula for you--you may need to pay out of pocket for the formula and fight with your insurance company to get reimbursed.
Yelling at the pharmacy is not going to make them send you formula faster--get on the phone and figure out another way to get what you need.

This. You may not have heard, but Florida just had a massive hurricane. It's not the places fault they can't ship things out . Posters gave you plenty of good ideas here, I'm sure one of them will work out.

Re: Extremely angry...

I understand your frustration. My daughter was on Neocate for 18 months and if we were without, it would have been quite an issue, as most pharmacies do not carry it at all. I would try calling your insurance/prescription coverage and ask for their assistance. They may be able to authorize a different pharmacy to get it to you.

Def ask your ped's office. Mine had given me 2 big cans Elecare just in case the aliment didn't work out (they're expired- I just checked, otherwise I would haven given them to you!). She had several cans. You could also try a mom and pop type pharmacy, they might be able to special order.

I would be furious, too. They should really have an alternate way of shipping things out.

I'm not one to make bets, but I'm putting my money on yes, she heard about the hurricane.

It is absolutely the company's fault. This hurricane was predicted a week in advance, they should have had an alternate means of fulfilling orders. It's a medical equipment supplier. It's not Zappos. They can't just say, sorry, no formula, your baby doesn't need to eat. Or sorry, no nebulizers, you don't need to breathe.

screaming at people will get you nowhere. in fact, when people get nasty with me at my job, there is no way im going to go the extra mile to help them. put on a fake smile & be nice and explore your options. FL was just murdered in a terrible storm. no one can predict just what the impact of a major hurricane will or will not do. there has to be another place in the US that can help you.

Well the good news is...you have power, your home is intact, and there are most likely multiple places you can get it until your delivery comes. There are millions in Florida who don't have any of that right now.

I hate to agree, but this is so true. Take the time and count your blessings. I'm actually very happy the company is supplying first the victims that need it most. We're in NY, I'm sure if you call around, you will find some. I know your baby depends on it and it's important but don't get upset because that will only burn energy. Call all over and I'm sure you will find some even if you have to drive an hour out. I feel terrible for the people effected by this hurricane.
