I have a looooong list of improvements around the house that I'd probably do. Not updating or doing anything for cosmetic purposes, but things that would significantly increase the functionality of the space.

that would amount would help pay for more IVF /other options
just want to add if I had it and didnt need for the options I mentioned. I am not a spender so and never treat myself so, if it was me I would save it.

Open a Roth. Save. Maybe spend some on a treat, Broadway show, weekend away.
But don't forget 5-8k does NOT equal a lot weekly. So its not like you will see a big bump. If you think you would spend it I might increase my withholding to an extra $25-50 a paycheck *if* you wont save. Then you will get a nice little bump at tax tinme.

I have a few house related projects that I would like:
Curtains
New cabinet and sink in the guest bath as I don't care for the previous owners taste for that one room.
I would also love an extra cabinet for my master bedroom.

combo of all
we are increasing DHs 401K contributions, but that still leaves us some extra each month. That will go to paying off bills. Once the bills are gone, it will go half into savings and half to fun family activities.

Every time we get a raise we increase the percent of salary that goes into retirement, so that would happen first
Leftover would probably be a combo of throwing extra to our mortgage, savings, and spending

Me? if this was a 1 time shot, 1/2 to student loan 1/2 to trip... if this was every year, 1/2 would go to retirement and the other 1/2 would pocket for liquid savings towards major remodel of house and vacations.... This is my plan with my new salary!
