Expedia/Delta RANT
We booked a vacation to Budapest and Prague through Expedia a couple of weeks ago. We get a call from Expedia that our outbound non-stop flight was cancelled. They gave us the following options: 1) fly out the day before (which is Christmas) 2) fly out 2 days later or 3) fly out the original day, but on a flight with a layover (there are now no direct flights that date).
The kicker is that if we went with option 3 - they wanted US to pay the difference in price because the cost of the flight with a layover was more than the price of the original flight we booked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And, this flight would have been cheaper had we booked it originally.
We were on the phone with both Expedia and Delta for HOURS over the course of 2 days and I have never dealt with such poor customer service before.
I am sorry, but if you cancelled my flight and have to put me on a different flight, why do I have to pay the difference???? Delta and/or Expedia should have picked up the difference!
Anyway, we decided to fly out Christmas and will add an extra day to our vacation. We actually may stay in Vienna overnight. I can assure you that both Delta and Expedia are getting letters from me!
Just needed to rant!!!

One of my friends had similar problems booking flights through Expedia. They said never again.
I am sorry that you had such a hard time but an extra night in Vienna sounds nice.
Give them hell in your letters though!!  They get you coming & going these days and they should at the very least accomodate the passenger when they make changes!!

That is ridiculous!!
You must must must book with the airline directly!! (as if I have to tell you that now!)
Poor thing, but at least you have an extra vaca day!
Ive honestly never heard of such a policy...

Oooh, that stinks!
I went through something similar with Southwest, wrote them a letter, and got $400 in vouchers as an apology.
So hopefully you'll get an extra day of vacation AND some extra spending money out of this!

Thats really strange....I *think* its maybe beacuse you booked on Expedia?
I know everytime that happens here at work, the airline offeres different options and they make the change with no charge. I would def. dispute it with Expedia and the airline.

I loathe Delta. I had a horrible experience with them flying home from Florida. I wrote them a letter and got a very generic reply.  All they could say was sorry you had a bad experience. I will never fly them again. I don't care if they are the cheapest to a location because they will probably end up canceling the flight anyway and cost me more money in the end.
