excersaucer early?

I know several people have posted that they took out the excersaucer early because their babies had "excellent neck control." I was wondering how early is early and what constitutes "excellent neck control." THanks!!!

I put my son in it at 4 months and put a towel around him.

Re: excersaucer early?

I tried to stick Ryan in one yesterday (12w4d) with a blanket behind him. He didn't quite seem ready - we'll try again next week. He was more shocked then entertained.

I started my DS in it a little after 3 months. DD is 2 months and even though she has always had really great head control I don't think she's quite ready for it.

Re: excersaucer early?

I started all 3 of my babies at 2 1/2-3 months old. All 3 of my babies could hold their head up the day they were born.

I put DS in it at 3 mths. He had really good head control. We would only put him in for a few minutes at a time with a blanket around him. At 15 weeks - he loves it. Its his absolute favorite toy!

I would say before 4 months is early. Around 4 months, many babies have decent neck control, or are pretty close.

I put Megan in a few times a week ( 12 weeks) but she doesn't really do much in it, she just stares at me while I'm playing with all the toys!Chat Icon

DD is 3 months and I just tried putting her in it the other day. I need to adjust it so she can touch the bottom but she didnt do much in it. Just kinda stared at the things in front of her. Chat Icon

Re: excersaucer early?

DS had great neck control early on. But he didnt seem to really enjoy the exersaucer until about 4.5 months. At 5 months I took out the walker and that thing is his favorite. It also has a higher back than the exersaucer so if DS wants to rest he can lean back and his head is supported!

same, we tucked a blanket behind him so he could reach the toys
It took him a bit to learn how to turn around in it though....
