Excellence or Palace?
Now that DH and I are ACTUALLY close to booking a trip (after many years of wanting to go), which resort do you prefer for Mexico? Probably Riveria Maya or Cancun.
We like excursions and night life.

Re: Excellence or Palace?
My sister spent her honeymoon at Excellence Isla Mujeres (I'm sure I butchered the spelling!). Looks absolutely gorgeous in the pics and they loved the place.

Re: Excellence or Palace?
Having stayed at an Excellence resort in DR and a Palcae resort in Mexico, I have to go with Palace. It may have had to do with locale but much better experience at Palace...from staff to setting to food.

Went to Excellence Riviera Maya for my HM... the beach there was awful. If you are looking for a gorgeous, blue, carib. beach, you aren't getting it there.
Overall, it was a nice resort, but not worth the premium price paid.

Re: Excellence or Palace?
DH and I went to Excellence Playa Mujeres in September. Absolutely LOVED it! We had a roof-top terrace room with a private plunge pool. It's outside of the hotel zone, so it's nice and quiet, but close enough that you could head down there for the night life if you want it. Isla Mujeres is a quick ferry ride away. If you want to see pics FM me and I'll send them to you.

DH and I were for our anniversary and were NOT impressed - It was $$$$$ and the food was 'ok' the drinks were NOT even close to top shelf, and if you're looking for nightlifie and a lot to do, that's not the place to be - it's in the middle of nowhere and a trek to get to anything off of the resort -
I will say the resort is absolutely BEAUTIFUL, and the spa was one of the best I've been to - but not worth the price tag IMHO

Interesting. They paid nothing because of some crazy swine flu deal. I'm sure that's one of the reasons they loved it so much

Re: Excellence or Palace?
DH and I stayed at Aventura Spa Palace and we LOVED it - not much of a nightlife but they did have great excursions.
Here's some more info from a mini review I did:
They have excursions that you can do - we went to Chichen Itza (ruins) - do NOT go there. It's just long. 2.5 hrs there, 2.5 hrs back, stop for shopping (NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM A MARKETPLACE - so much cheaper at the ruins). We also went to Xcaret which is an ecological park - we swam with the dolphins - we even got the foot push where you water ski on them. AWESOME. So worth the money - it was $300 for the two of us.. But don't do Xcaret - just go to a dolphin place - it was another $240 on top of the $300 to get in and it was just a small zoo on a lot of property. A friend of mine recommends the ATV tour - we didn't do that b/c we mostly wanted to relax.. But in hindsight, I wish we had done that instead of the ruins..
At the resort - you can look through a bunch of excursions - very easy to book them and they will bus you to and from. There was even an excursion to Isla Mujeres - a PP mentioned it...
