I dont know why I never thought of this
but
when you bring your clothes to the cleaner they are washed with other peoples clothes
ew ew ewww on so many levels and did I mention ewww
ooh and I am I the only one who didn't know this?

I never even thought about that. I guess because I don't really know what they do to clothes when they get dry cleaned.

Yes absolutely washed with other people's clothing in a big machine. They can be dried together and steamed together too. I worked in a dry cleaner all through hs. Any questions just ask.

Yea - I figured this out a couple of years ago - actually right after I met DH.
He brought all of his laundry to be cleaned.
Since I found out, I wash all of his clothes

Wait, so if I drop a bag of laundry off at the laundromat, they're mixing it with other people's? How do they know how to re-sort it?
Is that why I end up with foreign socks every once in a while?

Laundry mat no they do not. If you have men's work shirts and stuff launder through a dry cleaner then yes they are mixed in.

Some use ones you staple onto the tags of clothes and the matching number is stapled on to the dry cleaners copy of your ticket. The dry cleaner I worked at in HS used tags like this 
Anything in the load that had that color tag would only belong to you. All different orders were tagged with different colors

Some places don't even clean the clothes! I worked in a cleaners during HS and the owner used to SMELL the clothes to see if they smelt dirty.. if they didn't.. they were hung outside to "air out"

WHAT? More of a reason to do your own laundry and buy dryel or one of the as seen on TV steamer things. EWWWWW

I didn't know this.... however... if your referring to a laudromat your own stuff is washed with your own stuff... if that is a dry cleaner then EW
