Ever Have Brakes Fail While Driving?
I experienced the horror of this today...and of course, DD was in the car with me!
Luckily, I wasn't going fast, I had just crossed over Jericho Tpk and was pulling into a parking lot b/c DD was crying. I hit the brakes, they went all the way down, but the car was still moving!
Scary, scary, scary!!

That happened to me once. i was down the block from my house. I had to call me dad to come get the car because i was too afraid to ride the next 2 or 3 blocks. Glad you and your DD are okay

This happened to my mother when I was little. Thankfully there were no other cars and we were going pretty slow to begin with. I remember being scared and my mother crying.

I think when that happens you are supposed to take your foot off the gass, shift into neutral, and apply the emergency brake.
If that still does not work, turn on hazzards, get into right lane and gentle rub a soft shoulder or curb to help slow the car down.

yes and i crashed. it was horrible.
it was raining, my brakes locked and i hydroplated into the car in front of me.
i wont drive i nthe rain or snow anymore

I was in a car when it happened to the driver (it was a coworker). I couldn't believe it, we almost crashed. Thankfully, he swerved past the car in front and was able to use the emergency brake to slow and pull off.

How does this happen to so many people? Is it because the brakes should have been checked/repaired and weren't?
Or after going through a big puddle of water?
That's never happened to me. Skidding I understand, but to have the brakes actually fail... Wow. I'd like sue somebody or something!

Yes, very scary.
That was the last time I trusted anyone outside of a mechanic to work on my brakes - no matter how much they knew about cars.

Wow, so scary that your child was with you!!
Yup, this happened to me while pregnant last year. It was terrifying, it was as I was trying to get off the L.I.E. I had to stomp on the brakes hard b/c the guy in front of me was a moron, and they popped, and they were gone!  I had a standard-shift then, thankfully I was able to downshift, etc., but I had lots of lights to get through going home. It was terrifying!

This happened to me a few months after I got my license. I pushed the brakes down to the floor and it kept going. I put the truck in park and called my dad to come help me. G-d forbid it happened again, I would try to get out of the left lane before parking.

Luckily I didnt screw the car up more b/c I think I got so scared that I put it into park
I had my dad come and pick us up, he said the front brakes still working (um, yeah dad, I would really prefer that ALL the brakes work!) He took it to get fixed, so I will have it back tomorrow.
Apparently, it was some kind of leak in the brake line.

I did not have my brakes fail - I had my engine seize and stop while I was going 55 on the Grand Central Parkway. I thought I was going to die. It is DAMN scary! Glad you are ok!
