Estrogen cream for an INFANT???
Um, has anyone else had this problem??? I am convinced people are IDIOTS.
I called DD's pediatrican b/c she had a 103 fever. He’s out – got a call from the covering Dr. We go see him. He’s 85 years old with hair growing out his nose. He says “she needs to go to Hasbro Children's Hospital(we live in RI now) for a urine & blood sample but her labia is fused together. They can’t catheterize her. I’m going to call ahead & have a surgeon waiting there to CUT THAT OPEN.” Um, WHAT??? You want too cut my daughter’s vagina open so you can get a urine sample? Are you f*cking insane?
So we drive to the hospital & I call my friend’s mother who is a professor of medicine at Harvard & was Ella’s original pediatrician in Boston. She says "NOOOO - Do not let them cut her. Unnecessary! They can get a urine sample by bagging her. When she hits puberty, the folds will open up on their own.” I had to FIGHT with these doctors not to cut her to get a urine sample! FIGHT. They finally used a bag sample & guess what - her urine was clear. They would have cut her for nothing.
In the end, they prescribed up ESTRGOGEN cream to put on her. Yeah, sounds like a GREAT idea. Like I’m going to give estrogen cream to a 5 month old! That's what my mother used for her menopause. The doctor actual SAID to me "don't put too much on or she can experience the effects of estrogen." I say "what do you mean?" She says "she can grow boobs." I almost threw up. Then I get home & google this crap & it says that babies can get "mini-periods" after discontinuing the cream. ARE THESE PEOPLE INSANE?????
Has anyone else experienced this? I thought I was on "Punked."

It sounds like they think she has labial adhesions. I found this article it seems normal to prescribe topical estrogen.
I wouldn't let them cut her or try to rip apart the adhesions either.

Yes, that's what they said it was "labial adhesions."
The problem is we have 3 doctors with 3 opinions: one wants to cut her, one says the cream, the other says leave it alone. I am siding with the one that said leave it alone.

I would definatley trust your instincts! She's your baby and you know her better than any doctor.
Hope she's better soon!

Yeah, the article says that they usually clear up at puberty. I would only consider treatment if she starts having difficulty urinating or repeat UTIs. I would ignore anyone who says to cut her.
