Ergo carriers users...lets talk.

I went to BRU this morning to look at and most likely purchase however they r only sold online. My dd was born at 10lbs which is the main reason i am leaning toward this carrier.

Please tell me where u bought urs, which one u have and pros and cons.

Thank you!!
Marissa

Re: Ergo carriers users...lets talk.

I would definitely try one before you buy---I am in NJ but my BBB carries them in the store to try on. I don't have an Ergo, but they are really nice. I ended up with a Beco just bc I wanted a carrier that when I unclipped it he was still "in" the carrier if that makes sense.

I got it off of craigslist.
The ergo site actually does auctions where you can get them at a discount.

I bought my Ergo baby carrier at Buy Buy Baby. It is really easy to use. I found it much easier to use than the Baby Bjorn. It is also machine washable which is great. I didn't use it when my DD was just born. I started using it more when she was 6 months old and used it up until she was about 14 months old. She is now 18 months and I could probably still use it since the weight restrictions are pretty high. I just haven't used it much since she started walking.

Pro - they carry babies longer than the Bjorn

Con - the leg spacing has their legs way too far apart and is not good for proper hip development particularly for infants.

Pro - it has a newborn insert that helps with BFing and can be used like a sling

I have also read that Bjorns are bad for baby's spinal column, as it puts all their weight on the base of their spine and can cause serious back problems later in life. I am not sure how true it is, but I used the Bjorn a little for my DS and never really like it, so I wanted something different for my DD. As I was researching I found out some negative stuff about the Bjorns.

Re: Ergo carriers users...lets talk.

I have both - the Bjorn Basic and the Ergo Sport
I prefer the Ergo overall, but there are pros and cons to each.
The Ergo can carry the baby from newborn to 40 lbs (that's like 2/3 years old). I won't be able to use the Bjorn for much longer with DS as he is around 20 lbs now and the weight limit is 25lbs. With the newborn insert in the Ergo, he was so comfortable it was great. It made my life much easier cuz I could do stuff around the house with him in the carrier and I didn't have to worry.
The Bjorn takes a little longer to put on for some reason, but yet it's easier to actually get DS into it. And the leg openings are closer together so I feel it's more comfortable for him, although he doesn't complain in either carrier. But, he sleeps way better in the Ergo.
The Ergo has a bunch of ways that it can be used, but honestly I've only had him in front of me (facing in or out) in either carrier. I tried putting him on my hip the other night with the Ergo and couldn't quite get it, but I'll work on it some more.

I have really used both these carriers. I just find it more enjoyable for both of us, maybe because I can interact with DS more in the carrier. Overall, I like the Ergo better - it's easier on my back, DS sleeps better in it and I will be able to use it for a longer period of time. I love the fact that I can cook and clean without DS crying or hanging onto my legs...and I get to show and tell him what we are doing as we go.

Re: Ergo carriers users...lets talk.

I got my ergo from Buy buy baby a few weeks ago. We've only used it a few times but so far I love it. DD was never a huge fan of the stroller so when we are out and doing alot of walking she does much better in the ergo. She will NOT fall asleep in the stroller for anything, but sure enough every time we use the ergo she ends up falling asleep ( I like that they have the sleeping hood to support her head) My only complaint is that I would really love to be able to use it at times by myself, but I don't see myself being able to get her on my back all by myself.

I had the Ergo but returned it because I thought it was bulky. I got the Becco Butterfly which is similar but I find it more comfortable. It comes in nicer fabrics too. They don't carry it in any of the stores so I had to order it online.

Re: Ergo carriers users...lets talk.

I have the Ergo, a ring sling and a baby Bjorn. My favorite by far is the Ergo. It never hurts my back and I can walk down he street and nurse he dd and no one even knows. She loves i in there and loves to sleep in there. I can carry dd on my back, hip or front. And I can even carry my almost 2.5 year old ds on my back without a problem. I wish I hadn't spent he money on the other. I got my Ergo from Babysteals for half price.

I have the Ergo sport, it is lighter and less bulky than the original and it is very cool! Great ventilation. DD falls asleep in it pretty quickly and loves to walk everywhere. Also it has never bothered my back! I feel like I can walk with her forever!

I bought my Ergo at BBB. They have a bunch there that you can try. I don't use it much now (DS is 11 months) but I used it a ton when he was younger and I love it!
