LIPA seeks more rate hikes in face of soaring oil costs

(05/07/08) WOODBURY - Sources tell News 12 Long Island that the Long Island Power Authority is looking to increase monthly bills to help deal with rising oil and natural gas prices.
LIPA CEO Kevin Law will soon announce another hike in the power supply charge for 1 million customers, sources say. The power authority already hiked the charge 2 percent in January, and sources add the latest hike could be as much as 6 percent, amounting to an extra $9 a month on the average $150 monthly bill.
As gas prices continue to rise, LIPA is seeking to wean itself off fossil fuels in an attempt to start using renewable, more natural resources. The public is being invited to comment on LIPA’s new directive in the form of hearings.
LIPA is putting together a draft of their energy plan and public hearings will be held early in the fall.

I feel like everyone is using the rising price of gas as an excuse to raise prices... I mean I can see how high gas prices really does have an effect on everything but... when will it ever end???

They really are blaming everything on gas. Curious to see when (and if) gas prices ever go back down if everything else will too.....  yeah right
