Enfamil Nutramigen & Similac Alimentum
My pediatrician said I can swith from similac sensitive to alimentum if DD's screaming & discomfort didn't gt better in a couple days.
My friend gave me a bunch of Enfamil Nutramigen so I was wondering if I could try that instead of the alimentum or if I should just play it safe & stay with the same brand.
I just hate to go & buy the stuff if it's not going to work. I already did that with the similaic advance & the sensitive (bought in bulk, switched formula & couldn't return  ) & poor DD still seems like she's in pain when I feed her

My ped said they are the same thing just different brands versions...I think they just reccommend whatever formula rep gives them the most samples.
Just ask your ped if it's ok to switch brands!

my understanding is that they are the same just from different companies.
if i were you i would try the nutrimigen since i have it.

I heard it does the same thing, but my DS hated Alimentum and loved Nutramigen so I would say try it, can't hurt.
IMO, you dont need the Ped's green light to use a different brand do what is good for your baby & you

Nutramigen is superior to allimentum for many reasons - and you should use the powder verses the RTF b/c it contains a probiotic lactobacillus gg that helps heal the baby's gut that was damaged from the allergen.
The other benefits over allimentum are:
1. Allimentum contains table sugar (2nd ingredient) about 11 tsp/day. When baby has milk pro allergy the first enzyme removed from the brush boarder is sucrase (which digests sucrose), therefore sucrose sits in the gut and ferments - making a bad problem worse.
2. Does not contain recommended DHA levels of .2% and above
3. Contains MCT oil - this product was actually designed for use with cystic fibrosis pt. or pt.s with fat malabsorption. MCT oil changes the fatty acid profile - making it unlike breast milk. Not super important - but just a difference
Also, there was a new clinical published that showed a 100% success rate with babies placed on nutramigen powder vs. nutramigen rtf or allimentum.
OH - and they give you a bunch of free samples on their nutramigen program and most insurance companies pay for it if its a milk pro allergy.

Sorry, but you are CONSTANTLY bashing Similac products and I take alot of your professional opinions with a grain of salt. There is no way you can tell mothers that Enfamil products are the only way to go when every baby is different and things can get way more complicated than you make them out to be when making a decision about which formula you should feed your child (especially when there are feeding issues to begin with).
To the OP, try the nutramigen since you have it and see what happens, it's all trial and error.

BC Similac products in my nutritional opinion are not as good as Enfamil or Good Start. Babies will still grow and thrive on Similac, but they are not formulated to be like breast milk like the other products on the market, and they are the only formula being sold in the US that does not provide the recommended dose of DHA.
The other formula companies pay over 35 million dollars per year to provide recommended DHA, but charge the same amount for their product as Similac. Similac manufactures the Kirkland brand..and guess what...it provides the proper DHA level. For the past 6 years we have not allowed Similac to be used in our nursery for the fact they do not meet the recommended standards set forth by the ADA, NIH, WHO and EU.
Aside from this, the most simplest reason is that they are a casein predominant formula. Breastmilk is whey predominant (60/40), as is Enfamil, Good Start, and Earths Best.
So yes...I support all other companies aside from Similac. I believe that they are not the best formula out there...my 8 years of nutrition education gives me that right. I offer my educated decision and one I would give to any of my moms....I am passionate about nutrition and just want to share my opinion.

Something is very funny about the way you post. Its very scripted. No mother would speak this way to other mothers who are desperate and looking for advice and information. Very likely you are working for Enfamil and on this board to promote your products.

Nope. I don't talk to Moms this way. But I do educate them. I would normally say, you should try this product for this reason. I don't get on my soap box about it the way I do on this board.
However. I am very friendly with my Enfamil rep. Does that also add to my supportiveness yes. However. Se helps a lot of moms on this site offering free cases. So no I don't work for Enfamil. I split my time with the newborn nursery nicu and WIC clinic.
I also an very supportive of good start and earths best. There is no rep that comes to see me so I have no info from them but I do recommend they products. The only one I shy away from is Similac.

this whole thing makes me feel awful. just reading it.
i use similac alimentum. my dr office (mds4kids) recommended it and gave me a sample to use.
my dd was having issues with enfamil newborn and gentlease.. so he had me try the alimentum. she felt better immediately.
i was already feeling awful for not having her on 100% breast milk (she gets half and half... sometimes more formula these days) and now I feel even worse because of all this you wrote about similac.
but it's scary and hard to change after going through what I went through. to find a formula that actually helps your baby be the happy baby you once knew early on... it's hard to start trying out something new and worry that won't work and then you are back at square one.
so thanks for bashing alimentum.

As I said. Baby will be fine on Allimentum. There are no nutritional issues aside from DHA (which Isn't going to affect growth) it's just an extra benefit. Also the probiotic helps making it a product that works better at stopping blood in the stool.
I personally like nutrigem better and get on my soapbox about DHA. I did not mean or intend to insult anyone. And I apologize if I did. I was answering the op to the best of my ability. Some people may not like what I have to say but others may appreciate it. But I am sorry if I offended anyone.
Some people like Gerbers some like Earths best. Some like Similac some like Enfamil. When it all comes down to it it is just formula.

Just FYI, my daughter was on Alimentum and did great, loved it, less gas the whole 9. Still had blood in her stool, though. Anyway, got switched to Nutramigen and she HATED it. Wouldn't eat, stomach got worse again. Didn't do anything for the blood, either. So we went to Elecare, but my point is, Alimentum was a MUCH better product for us.
