Endometriosis
Has anyone been diagnosed with endometriosis? What were your symptoms? Was lap the only way to diagnose it? how was the procedure? My ob gyn suggested i might have it and offered lap but I am scared

Re: Endometriosis
I am currently considering having laparoscopy to find out if I have endometriosis (and if I do, get rid of it!). I am almost definitely going to go ahead with it, but probably not till the end of August (just how it works out for me).
I'm interested to hear others' experiences as well!

Re: Endometriosis
I have endometriosis. I was diagnosed by a lap done by my RE. I thought I had no symptoms but after I had it removed I realized I did I always had cramps and lower back pain with my period, constipation, and tmi pain with sex occasionally. After my lap all these went away. The lap was not bad at all. Recovery was about 5 days. The most painful part was from the gas they fill you up with so it hurts in your chest the next few days. I had it 2 1/2 years ago and am having another one because I feel it grew back. I have been on all these fertility drugs for the past 2/12 years since my lap and they make it grow back. Anything estrogen producing makes it grow. I would definitely have it done because it does affect your fertility. I got pregnant right after I had it but unfortunately miscarried. They say you are most fertile after having it done.HTH!!Good luck!!

Re: Endometriosis
I don't have it but a friend of mine does. She would have the worst period cramps I have ever seen and for pretty much the entire time she had her period she was in pain. She had pain during sex also. She had the lap surgery to have it removed but she also said that for her they couldnt remove it all because it had spread to around her ovary I think. Once she had to lap though, her periods were so much better. She is pregnant now and she said that helps it too.

Re: Endometriosis
i was diagnosed with minimal endo. i am pretty sure the only definite way to diagnose it is by the lap procedure. it really wasn't that bad and honestly, i am so glad i had it done. it's like finding another missing piece to the puzzle.
i didn't really have any symptoms so i didn't think i had it. but the 2 aren't related. common symptoms include heavy, painful periods.
i've done a lot of research on it and unfortunately, it's not completely understood right now - exactly what causes it. it can affect your fertility though so if your dr suspects you may have it, it wouldn't hurt to have the procedure. most times they can treat it at the same time.

were you under anesthesia for the procedure? when you say, recovery is 5 days, does it mean 5 days at the hospital? also, i am surprised that symptoms are so vivid and not definitive. For example, I do not have heavy bleeding with AF, but do have painful periods

Re: Endometriosis
I am having a lap done to repair a septum in my uterus, but at the same time the new doc I am seeing beleives I also have endo and will look for it and remove it if necessary when I have it done. He asked me about my periods - they are always very light (maybe 2 days at the most) I get bad cramps and pain in my thighs. I asked many docs before him if I could have it and they all said no. So hopefull when I have the lap done everything will be taken care of and I can finally proceed on to getting my BFP. I'll let you know how it goes. Not sure when the procedure will be yet (doc is on vacation this week), hopefully within the next 2 weeks.

Re: Endometriosis
Yes you are under anesthesia. The whole procedure takes about an hour depending on what they find. You get to go home the same day. I meant that after 5 days I felt completely normal. I had and still do have regular periods every 27 days that last for like 3 days but had bad cramps and lower back pain the day before it came. They found I had moderate endo. After the lap my cramps were very mild.
