End units - townhouses
Is it true that utilities can be way higher on an end unit? Anyone have any experience with this?
Thanks!

Re: End units - townhouses
I lived in two different ranch style end unit TH's. Neither of them were very energy efficient, they had aluminum windows & vaulted ceilings. I'm not sure about it costing more then a middle unit though. Maybe the middle units are better insulated by the ends?

Re: End units - townhouses
I live in an end unit townhouse. I can't imagine that our utilities are THAT much more expensive than the middle units, but it's possible. We also have the largest unit in the complex (by a fair amount, but only a few more windows. It's possible that the middle units are better insulated, BUT that to me in NO way outweighs the benefits (IMHO) of having the end unit -- more privacy, more windows, etc.
ETA - there's no way they are "way" higher than the middle units. The same rules still apply - it'll depend on your construction type, energy usage, number and quality of windows, etc.

Re: End units - townhouses
I live in a middle unit and I did hear that the end units can get a little more money. I never had any problems living in a center unit. I can't hear between the walls, but I did hear people above me on the stairs and when she vacuumed. Want to buy my condo? My utilities are cheap- usually about $150 a month for LIPA and Keyspan (the amount of each changes, but the two usually end up being $150 together). The heat doesn't cost much. Last winter my heat broke and it was FREEZING outside, it was in January and the heat only went to 58 degrees inside.

Re: End units - townhouses
I dont think the utilities are going to be drastically different, i do know that End Units tend to be more desirable, and tend to sell for more money, if you want to think of resale value for the future
