Embarrasing day... Anyone every have this happen before?

My dd2 fell at 10:30 this morning. She cried hysterically, so we did the bacitracin thing to calm her( she hinks meds fix things.) She did not stop crying. When we got her home she refused to walk, then whined on and off all day. At 3:00 she was still whiney and refusing to walk so I decded to let her take a nap. She wanted to go to bed because her knee hurt. At 4:00 she wakes up and immediately gets hysterical about her knee. She refuses to walk or move or put on a band-aid.

At 4:30 I call the ped and they say bring her right over. I do. She begs not to see the doctor and we convince her to walk so she does not have to see him. She does, very gingerly and slowly, walk across the room. We decide to take her home because I don't want to pay $15 for a band-aid. We leave and the doctor calls us to find out why we left.

It was embarrasing having to tell him that I have a kid that will cry for 6 hrs over a scraped kknee and she now appears ok.

Tonight she is still walking funny. I am thinking the scrapes are bothering her because she does not have bandaids on them.

Anyone else have a kid who could cry for that long over what is apparently a scrape?! I can't believe it. When I woke her from her nap and she was still crying, I thought for sure that there was a more significant injury. I am still a little worried that her knee is more hrt than I think.

I prob would've had the doctor check your DC out! Sounds odd that she'd be crying for all that time over a just a scraped knee.

Hope she feels better!

Thanks. I am thinking that too. But then I am worried about taking her now and finding out it is just a scrape. Although she is walking funy, my dh got her to chase him for a couple of minutes. She was giggling and running.

Could it be something more if she can run? I just don't know.

I would totally have just brought her; especially since you were there. Better safe than sorry

I can see why everyone just would have stayed. But my dh had an appt and I can't lift my daughter right now because of present medical issues. My dd hates the doctor. It's really traumatic for her to see him. She screams the when she hears her brother is going there. That being said, we probably still should have stayed. I guesss I will see how she is in the morning.

I agree, especially since it was such a prolonged reaction, even after a nap.

Hope she feels better.

I would take her to the doctor.

Could be more than a scrape if she's still hurting. I hate to say it, but the way she fell, maybe it could be a knee injury. I don't want to scare you, but it's a possibility.

I tore my ACL playing basketball. I basically tripped.

I agree...but I tore mine running...regularly.

I think that you probably should have had the doctor see her, especially since you had to convince her to walk and she is still walking gingerly
