Electric Cars! Which Would You Get?
With the gas prices so high recently, the race is on to produce a mass market electric car. There are currently about 30 on the market or ready to be rolled out shortly.
If you're in the market for an electric car, which would you consider?

Here's my pick - the Tesla Roadster. If only it was half the price! :D

But with the price of LIPA KW/H rates I can't see how electric cars are going to make it here in Long Island.
Don't these things need to be "charged?"

I honestly think the future are cars that run on natural gas. we have plenty of our own supply.

I agree...until our electric prices come down...or NY decides to get with the rest of the program and use nuclear power....any "savings" from not buying gas will be give right to LIPA!

"Savings" is not the only reason to drive a hybrid or electric car! It's a whole lot greener.
To the OP, I don't have a car, as I live in the city. If I were to get an electric one it'd have to be one that has a decent range and speed, because I'd only ever use it to go pretty far distances - I can get everywhere else on public transportation. If money were no object, I'd go for the Spyder! I also think the Phoenix motorcars SUVs look cool, but slightly pricey. More likely have to go for the Think City.

Having an electric car on LI...where the electricity is generated by using fossil fuels is not being very green. When LI has nuclear power...or another alternative form of energy...then electric cars will be the "greener" option....

that's not entirely true. C02 emissions from a gas-powered car are greater than those generated as a by-product of the electricity needed to charge it.
Beyond that, by using the new technology you're supporting the industry - allowing the manufacturers to carry out more research in order to develop it further the future. If there's no market for it, they can't do that.

I'm getting solar panels, so I am so looking forward to getting a plug-in electric car. Once I pay for the car, there will be essentially zero residual costs (insurance, inspection, etc...). Also, zero emissions, since the electric will be solar generated.

I would love to get an electric car!  But I have to wait until they become more affordable.  I hope they really are reintroduced and the government offers some sort of incentive porgram (similar to what they did for the hybrid a few years back).
Anyone who wants to know more about electric cars should watch "Who Killed the Electric Car."
