Anyone been? Anyone from there?

I'll be there for a week in August with my bf's family. We'll be staying ar a resort for a few days and then visiting family for another few days. I already told him that I want to take some time to get out and explore. Is there anywhere I must go see? I hear they have awesome surfing and volcanoes. (?)

Any input would be awesome

My and DH's family is from El Sal so we go alot. It's a tough country for non local's but fun if you take the right measures.
We love horse back riding there. Nice beaches but not sandy white. Delicious food, try the Pupusa's =)
