Eczema relief when pregnant.....
I have bad eczema all my life...
I have used Diprolene ointment prior to being pregnant and it works wonders...but since it is a steroid it has been deemed not too safe to the fetus
My derm gave me a prescription alternative hydrocortisone butane...but it DOESN'T work AT ALL!
I have also tried cetaphil and Aquaphor ointment ( in the tub) and they have not helped either...
I have been up the last three nights scratching and almost in tears..and it has even started to blister up!
I hate knowing I have a medicine that works and I cannot use for another 4 months!
Anyone have any other safe remedies that work...I am desperate!
I called my derm and left a message to see if there is another medicine I can take

Re: Eczema relief when pregnant.....
have you tried oatmeal? My cousin has horrendous exzema and for a while she was using oatmeal. Oatmeal baths, oatmeal lotion, etc. I think Aveeno has a line of stuff. I'm sure the relief is temporary but it's better than nothing. Maybe take a warm (not hot!) bath before bed? Good luck and feel better!!

I'm sorry, I don't have any advice but wanted to say I can sympathize. I have mild psoriasis and I also have stopped using the steroid cream. It is ugly and makes me self concious
aren't oatmeal baths supposed to help with itchiness?

Re: Eczema relief when pregnant.....
Ask your Doctor about Betamethasone Dipropionate. I googled it & that scared me a bit, but my Doctors opinion (my OB) was that I could use it and yelled at me for googling . I think he said I'd have to eat it to cause problems. I'm still being cautious though, even with his green light, I've used just a small amount probably under 10 times the whole pregnancy (on nights I couldn't stand the itching, like you described). Worth asking your Doctor about.. I feel your pain!

That is exactly what I use when I am not pregnant! That is the generic for diprolene...UGH! Isnt that stuff the best...it works so well!
My dr didnt feel comfortable letting me use it! But I called and they are going to have the dr call me back when they are back in on MONDAY! I am def going to ask again....or at the very least - a better alternative!
Thank you

Re: Eczema relief when pregnant.....
There are so many things that my derm thought were unsafe during pregnancy...
Fortunately, my skin CLEARS UP while I'm preggo & then I have hell as soon as I deliver & can't use much due to constant breastfeeding.
I had a topical, low strength steroid... it worked, but just a little. I just tolerated it.... but it was the worst I had EVER had.
Careful with the home remedies too. Tar products, ect are no-nos during pregnancy.
Maybe go out into the sun?

Gentle Naturals Baby Eczema Cream. I've been using it for years and it's the best thing I've ever used. Doc said it's safe to use (it's actually made for babies).
Can be hard to find sometimes. It's located in the baby care aisle at the drug store. Last time I got it I think I ordered from drugstore.com
It's in a blue/green tube.
