eczema and teething

i just introduced milk to DD (she's 1) and at the same time she's been getting her top two teeth. She has been miserable with the teething - not really eating, biting on everything and obviously uncomfortable.

I also noticed that she started getting some eczema too. I thought it was from the milk, but i read something that teething can cause eczema.

I stopped her milk and her teeth finally popped through and she seems much more comfortable. the eczema on her face has subsided, but its still on her chest.

any thoughts - teething or milk related??

DS never had eczema with teething but had it early on and then on and off for the first 12-18 months.

eczema and teething

I think it's the heat. DS is starting to get a really bad case of it on his cheek, we haven't tried any new foods since it developed (I've been lazy with the cooking), the only difference is that his teething is really bad (he has 2 teeth cutting) and it's hot as hell. Yesterday, we started putting baby aveeno eczema on him and put his ac in his room, over night it looks 10 times better, and smaller. I think the heat is the biggest thing. My brother had it really bad as a kid and he says the same thing, the heat was the killer.

Re: eczema and teething

interesting...never thought about the heat factor - something else to consider.

will start up again tomorrow with the milk and see what happens.

Re: eczema and teething

Heat is a major factor for eczema. When a child is having an outbreak, it's very important to keep them cool. I'll probably apply an ice pack to DS's cheek when I get home tonight because it's so so hot today.

Re: eczema and teething

really! i had NO idea....thanks for letting me know!!

nobody in my family ever had it, so i know nothing about it. DD had it when she had her reaction to milk last year, but she had GI symptoms too, so i never really looked into it

I'll make sure to keep the AC on Super COOL tonight!! YAY - i've been keeping it on the warmer side because she's got no blankets, and DH and I end up sweating!! lol

Yeah, our ped always said, from the beginning, keep the house between 66 - 68. We refuse to put the AC's any lower than 70 though, I think I'm going to change that tonight, I woke up sweating. DH gets it bad in the cold weather, and my brother gets it bad in the hot weather.

OMG, 66* would be IDEAL for me! I'm like your DH, I'm a furnace. DH puts the comforter on when it's 70*... cracks me up! DS is like me.
