If you are being monitored, how soon can they tell if its an ectopic pregnancy?

i think they can do u/s at 5 weeks and see of there is a sac in the uterus.

as Ang said, based on betas they can tell very quickly. also, if they test your progesterone and it is very low, that can be a sign (along with abnormal betas). other signs are bleeding and abdominal pain.

my first ectopic, i had a beta at what i thought was CD3 because of bleeding but it was probably about 15dpiui and my beta was very low. my follow up beta did not rise as it should and my progesterone was low. the dr did a few more betas and they kept rising. she did a sono and could see a tiny spec of my tube possibly growing. this was around 5 weeks. surgery confirmed ectopic pregnancy.

my second ectopic, i had a beta at 12dp3dt (so about 15dpo) and had a normal beta. second beta 2 days later, my beta dropped. third beta, rose again. this is also a sign of ectopic. i had the shot of methotrexate.

do you suspect you have an ectopic?

No thankfully I don't have an ectopic pregnancy.

The reason I was asking was because I'm scheduleing an IUI, but I also have a vacation planned.

If the IUI worked, the vacation would be at week 7. The doctor was concerned about me being on vacation and needing medical treatment. (I'm going on a cruise so finding a hospital would be dfficult). She said she would be most concerned about an ectopic pregnancy. So I was curious to know how quickly can they find out if its ectopic or not.

Now the question is do I postpone the IUI until after vaca?

Part of me doesn't want to because I've waited this long, I don't want to wait anymore for treatment.

However I don't want to do anything that would put me at risk either.

Ironic part, is that I would constantly refuse to make plans that far ahead of time because what if I was pregnant or what if I had a newborn, etc, etc. Pregnancy and babies never happened so I said to myself F it, I can't put my life on hold anymore, I'm going on vacation. . .

well if it helps i got the shot at 6w4d... and the spotting started at 5w...

they should without a doubt be able to tell before that...

ETA: if i had been monitored from the day i got my BFP it would have been discovered way before that.

I had an ectopic after my first IUI. They knew something was wrong after my 3rd beta dropped (which was 28dpIUI) instead of rising. It went from 47 to 250 to 241. I was also bleeding from the beginning of the pregnancy.

My ectopic was caught very early because I was being monitored by an RE. If you are being monitored by an RE I would think they would be able to diagnose an ectopic before 7weeks.

i would definitely keep in mind your dr concerns but for me, i would not worry about going on vacation at 7 weeks. they would know well before then if it was ectopic. ectopic pregnancies are pretty rare too. i say go and enjoy yourself.

is there a particular reason your doctor is concerned about this ??

just seems like a random concern, and honestly i would just go enjoy your vacation. if you were having an ectopic and are being closely monitored by your doctor - chances are you would know prior to 7w anyway.

When I had my ectopic, my betas were rising normally (all three) but at almost 6 weeks I had pain and bleeding. My tube actually ruptured and I needed surgery. If you are being monitored by a RE, they should definitely be able to catch an ectopic before 7 weeks. (I was going to an asshat of a OB that told me that I was a low risk for a ectopic and that I should stay off the internet)
