EBF'ing moms & AR moms (long)

@ 2 months - how often and how long was your baby nursing? I'm driving myself bonkers w/ this yet again...

Joseph has reflux - not severe...just gagging and regurgitation which irritated him during feedings...so we put him on zantac for about 2.5 weeks and he was doing great... ME being a bad mommy dropped his dosage from 3x/day to 2x/day because I really thought he would be OK and didn't want him on so much meds....anyway, he relapsed I believe. He's fussy during his feedings and not taking very much at all. Before dropping the dose he'd take about 10-12 mins from each side every 3 hours or so...now he's only taking about 4-8 mins each side - except at night when he usually takes the normal amount. I did up his meds again 3 days ago. I spoke w/ a LC who said he could just be getting enough from the initial let down and that a shorter feeding is satisfying him...and I spoke w/ my pedi who said the AR is bothering him and as soon as he regulates on the meds again he should be fine.

What are your opinions? Do you think the shorter feedings are normal? He'll be 8 wks on Monday...we go for his shots then so I'll also be able to see if he gained a good amount of weight....

I'm thinking of starting to supplement a formula bottle maybe 1x or 2x a day so he gets in ONE big meal but I'm not sure if it's necessary. Chat Icon

I know its so hard to trust your instincts on this. There are times during the day where Miranda will only nurse and knowing I have a low milk supply I just wonder if she's getting enough. I often will offer her a bottle as well but she doesn't want it at time so I just have to trust that she's full.
Often AR babies will self limit their feeds. Miranda almost always does this with the breast or the bottle. She's gaining slowly but gaining. We thought she wasn't gaining but on my LC's scale she had gained 8oz in 2 weeks which only puts her 1/2lb behind schedule.
If you have a good milk supply I wouldn't worry too much. His **** could be getting stronger so he's getting more faster than he used to. Your ped is probably right though. Once his flare up is under control he'll probably go back to his old routine.

Thanks for thinking of me!Chat Icon His reflux is much much better now that the zantac is regulated again but he still only nurses for an average of 6 mins a side during the day. He gained 12 oz in 10 days so the dr isn't concerned...and once he burps he won't nurse again on the same side. I'm not sure why. I'll check out that website - thank you!!
