Eating with Utensils
When did your DC start using utensils on a regular basis?
DD is almost 18 months, I always give her a fork or spoon, but she still uses her fingers 90% of the time.

I just introduced utensils to my 16/14 month adjusted twins and they are enamored with eating from them. They are not great at it but really like it.

My twins aare 28 months and they would still prefer to use their fingers if I would let them. Sometimes I let them depending on what it is they're eating.

I stressed over this for a long time...I just kept giving them to her and she would use them here and there. It took some time and practice but she is using them now well finally at 2 yrs. She is much better at the spoon but is pretty good with the fork too.
I think when we got her play food/play utensils she started liking them more. We would pretend use them a lot and then at meals she wanted to use them.

Same here. DS is 28 months and only uses them for certain things on a regular basis. He always uses a spoon for things like yogurt, applesauce and oatmeal (thank God!) and he will sometimes use his fork with pasta, hot dog, meatball, etc. But usually after the first few bites, he goes back to fingers. He knows he can eat faster that way!

I think my kids were a little over two years old when they used their fork and spoon consistently and correctly. Before then they would try and if they were not successful on their first try would generally go ahead and use their fingers.

DS is 21 months and almost always uses his fork. I do see him use his hands every so often. If it needs a spoon he always uses it.

DD is 21 months and will use a fork and spoon but switches back to her fingers here and there. At 18 months she was still mostly using her fingers from what I remember.
