Early signs of GD? Or am I just paranoid....
For the past 2 days, I have been uncontrollably thirsty. Nothing seems to quench my thirst AND some beverages even make it worse (gingerale & sprite especially). AND as soon as I take a bite of food, the thirst gets even worse!
I am almost 9 weeks PG & I'm worrying that this may be a sign of GD. My grandmother is diabetic as were several aunts and uncles and my mother had GD when she was PG with my youngest brother.
Has this happened to anyone else? I'm worried.

I posted a similar thing about my thirst a few weeks ago. It is normal to have increased thrist while pregnant- your body needs the extra fluids. Sometimes I feel I can't quench it either.
I wouldn't worry at this point- you'll be tested when the time comes but for now I think it's very normal to be drinking a lot more...

I had the same exact thing! I think it is normal. The only thing that helped was VERY diluted lemonade or orange juice!

While it IS normal. It could be something worth mentioning to your OB as extreme thirst can be an indication of GD. Since there is a history in your family, I would definately mention it to your Dr. They can test you earlier than normal.

ITA with this. Increase your water intake and mention it at your next visit.

Re: Early signs of GD? Or am I just paranoid....
I don't have any experience with GD, but your body needs a lot of fluids right now - your blood volume is increasing tremendously to grow that baby and so do other fluids. I found I needed to increase my liquid intake quite a bit and it will probably take a few days of good hydration to feel a little less parched - or at least it was for me. But if you're really concerned, just ask your OB - I know they can do the test early (which will mean they'll have to repeat it later) for people who are at risk.

normally, i'd totally agree - HOWEVER, with a history like the op's - i'd speak to the OB - as Michele mentioned, they can test you earlier. (I was tested at 16 weeks)

Absolutely. I was tested at 9 weeks because I was having those symptoms and had GD with my first pregnancy (I passed)- never hurts to ask.
