Earliest age you started potty training?

Just wondering what was the earliest age moms started to potty train and have a success in a short amount of time? Especially if you have a boy. I remember my Ped telling me when Landon was 18 months old to get the potty seat out and should consider to start training him.. I thought that was way too early. Ped also said if a child can put 3words together in a sentence, then he is ready.
Landon is now just about 26 months and I don't think we are both ready just yet, lol..

Same ped., and DS is the same age and nowhere NEAR being ready!

For me, early was 3 years old! I didn't get my oldest son to potty train until 3 1/2, and the week before school started lol! He was just IMPOSSIBLE and refused.
My younger guy I started a bit younger bc he has older brother to watch, and I started at just about 2 1/2, and he STILL will not poop on the potty!

started showing signs at 18 months. told me he had to pee and poop at that age. (he was using full sentences at that point) tried potty training intermittently at that time and tried it again very consistently at 2 yo. no dice. Tried again at really consistency at about 2 years 4 months...occasionaly he would go. Tried again 3 weeks ago...it literally took 3 days for complete training. He held his poo for 3 days...then it was it. No accident for almost 3 weeks.


i really believe when the child is ready, he/she is ready...he will be 3 yo on 10/24. At 18 months my son had the ability to tell me to Go "f" off when I would ask him to use the potty...so I think it has nothing to do with language skills and think your Peds an arse for even saying the three word thing.

When I worked in daycare, we had some completely trained by the time they were two and started training around 18 months, but its the minority. Most are ready to start training at two and are fully trained by 2 1/2-3. I really believe you shouldn't force it if you don't think your child is ready, and if they show interest even if they are young you should let them. Its really different for every child.

DS is 17 months and he has expressed interest in the potty and will let me know when his diaper is wet and tell me "poop" sometimes. I figured why not! I got the potty out and he uses it here and there. I am not consistent with it right now because he is so young but every time he sits on it he goes to the bathroom. Usually just pee but he has pooped several times. I am just looking for him to build comfort and trust with the process and will take a more serious approach in a few months. He is receptive so I figure I am just going to go with the flow.

And he is nowhere near stringing 3 words together.

Both of my boys were fully potty trained by age 2. We started with sitting on the toilet at about 12 months old, just so that they didn't have a fear of it. Then they started going poops on the potty a little after that...it was me putting them on when they were showing signs of it, they didn't know to tell me that young...then they moved on to being able to tell me. The peepee was a bit more difficult, but what I did was just go cold turkey in underwear (day and night). They had a few accidents, which was to be expected, and then just got it!
