Re: eagle estate in medford??

i have heard many bad things when i mentioned that i was looking in the area as well. i drove by at various times during the day and night and have never seen anything bad...so im not sure whats so bad about it. sorry im not much help but if i was you i would just drive around and see what goes on. To me most of the houses looked well kept and ive seen people hangin out outside nothing unusual.

We almost bought a house there. It wound up falling through because of a CO issue. I heard bad things about it, but we drove around the neighborhood at all different times and I never saw anything that gave me concern.

Re: eagle estate in medford??

We live in Patchogue in a nice apartment to save $$ for a house. I cannot say it any more blunt- Patchouge/ Metford is not a nice area at all. The school district is so ghetto and horrible. Do a driveby when the buses let out. I would never ever buy a home in that area if I had children and was planning on sending them to public school.
I don't care who I offend. It's not a nice area at all.

Re: eagle estate in medford??

DH lived there a few years back when he needed assistance (lost his job due to an injury and wasn't covered under anything) prior to us meeting. He said it was hell on earth. There are some really nice areas of medford now but that is just not one of them.

I'm sorry that this is your opinion. But I would like to build on your statement.

I lived in Medford, in the Pines area for over 27 years. I LOVED my neighborhood. While the school district has changed a bit from when I graduated in 98, my sister graduated in 08, had a very good high school experience as well. Both of my siblings as well as I, were honors students, took AP classes, did sports. I live in a more questionable school district now, than I ever did in Pat-Med.

My in laws live in Eagle Estates. They have no problems what-so-ever. While yes, I am sure Eagle Estates is not upper class, it is a working class neighborhood, and my DH lived there majority of his life. If I had to live in Medford, I would pick south of the LIE personally, but I would never say Eagle Estates is horrible. But to say that the whole area of Patchogue and Medford is not a nice area, is making a uniformed statement. Sections of Patchogue are not good, some sections are very nice. Same as Medford.

That being said, to the OP, I do not see why a house in Eagle Estates would be that horrible. If you were to go to Gordon Heights, which is part of Medford, I could see your concern. But not in Eagle Estates. Chat Icon

Re: eagle estate in medford??

I'VE LIVED IN EAGLE ESTATE FOR ALMOST 10 YEARS NOW AND HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS AT ALL. I actually live right on Eagle ave. My neighbor has been her for over 20 something years and she still loves it. I believe in every town there are problems here and there, even the richer towns! I take my DD for walks all the time and see nothing wrong with my neighbor hood. You can FM me if you have any questions.

I have to agree with Janine (especially since we graduated together Chat Icon )

While it is not Manhasset Hills I would by no means call it the ghetto. Several of the people I graduated with work in the school district and while it has changed due to illegal immigrants in the area, the school district itself still does well academically.

No, Eagles Estates is not a great area and I would not buy a house there BUT there are plenty of nice areas in Pat-Med- My parents still live in Patchogue and are happy.

Before you make a statement like that you should be at least be informed.

What exactly makes you think it is the ghetto? My husband works in Bed-Stuy...THAT is the ghetto.

ETA: And, Eagle Estates border Coram which IMO is the "bad" part of the area.

Re: eagle estate in medford??

I'll add my two cents (FWIW) - I live and work in the Pat/Med area and I think it's a great area. There's a diversity of people; the downtown Patchogue area is in the process of being revised; our neighbors and neighborhood are awesome.
Are some parts less desirable than others? Yep - just like in any other place.
Are there better school districts out there? Most definitely - but there are worse.

I certainly wouldn't characterize Patchogue/Medford as "ghetto."

It's funny, i just drove with my mom/RE agent to look at a house in Eagle Estates. Three houses looked like they were in shambles on on block, but overall, it wasn't bad.

I wonder if we looked at same house?

I agree. I've always heard bad things about Bellport but recently realized there is a ritzy section.

Sometimes you have to explore for yourself & not go by what others say...
...and what is a slum to some, is a home to others.

I love rustic, old neighborhoods with character, and some people would view that as old and creepy-seeming...but others like living in a new model development.
