DVD to Blu Ray
My wedding video is on dvd and I guess since technology has advanced since 2005, my video just doesn't play well anymore. It freezes and gets digitized.
I contacted the photographer and he said there is nothing they can do.
Is there a way or a company that can transfer my dvd to blu ray?
Thanks.

Re: DVD to Blu Ray
DVD is digital, so copying a bad digital movie to another digital media probably won't do anything. DVD isn't going away any time soon. It's still the standard optical drive in laptops.
You can try it on other DVD players, though. Some are better at handling scratches and marks on the drive. If you can play it better on a computer DVD drive, you can copy the movie to the hard drive, an external drive, or a cloud drive.

Thanks. Do I need a special program to save the video from the dvd to my laptop?
The disc isnt scratched or anything. There is nothing wrong with it. I just think the newer players go too fast for it? I dont know.
Having the file saved would be perfect!

The new blu-ray players are completely backwards compatible with DVD's, so that's not the issue. There likely is wear & tear on the disc that you probably just can't see. I would def go with the suggestion of trying it on another DVD player, maybe even your computer.

Re: DVD to Blu Ray
If you put it in a computer DVD player, I bet you can see the video files as regular files and folders in Windows Explorer. The simplest thing is to just copy (drag and drop) those files onto a folder on another drive.

Well its not simple. Yes, you see files but there not your typical movie file. If the disc is not dirty or has no marks, the player might be failing. Try another player and see if it acts the same.

For a standard commercial DVD movie, yes, but a privately made wedding movie DVD might have been made with a simple file system. Movie DVDs that I've made for myself were made with a simple file system that I could transfer off easily. They just had an "auto play" configuration that made the main menu play as soon as you put it in.

Private movies can be authored like commercial DVD's. Main difference is commercial DVD's are right protected but there are ways around. Different DVD programs are different. You can autoplay DVD's from adobe encore which I used when I worked for lif. Some companies may put a smaller file on the disc for other use. There different ways of doing this making us both right.
You can rip the DVD if all else fails but it sounds like the player

Re: DVD to Blu Ray
Strangely, it happens on my copy and my parents copy too.
That is why I was figuring that it is advancing technology and not disc damage.
I will try on my computer today. Thank you for the help.
I need to figure something out or I wont be able to view my wedding video and its only been 9 years

Has it always done this? Perhaps, when it was created, it wasn't done right. Try the computer, different bluray/dvd player and see what happens.

Re: DVD to Blu Ray
No! It worked fine for a few years.
I tried it on my laptop and it worked fine. A little lower quality for some reason but no freezing or anything. I tried to copy it over to my hard drive and it was taking FOREVER and then the error messages started that it couldn't copy/read certain files.
So half my battle is won being that I can actually watch it on my computer but I would really love to have the whole thing on my external hard drive or a zip drive.
Maybe I need a special program?

Re: DVD to Blu Ray
I got it to work! I now have the whole video on an external hard drive.
Now if I can only figure out how to use my Windows Movie Maker program so I can share certain parts...
