Duet prenatal vitamins - ?

For those who have tried Duet prenatal vitamins....did they make you constipated?

After suffering for the past two months with horrible gas and constipation from Citranatal DHA, I finally caved and asked my doctor for something different.

I was trying to give my body time to adjust and the fact that I paid for a 3 months supply played into why I waited so long.

Yesterday was my first day on Duet, and I was wondering what I could expect.

Re: Duet prenatal vitamins - ?

it just might. prenatals are loaded with iron which binds you. Chat Icon can you try and take colace along with it so that you remain regular?

In the beginning yes, they definitely did but as my pregnancy continued it got better and now I am pretty regular.

Re: Duet prenatal vitamins - ?

I was constipated but it had nothing to do with the Duet prenatals, because I was taking the prenatals before I was pregnant as well with no issues. I think the constipation is mainly a hormonal thing that is aggravated by the vitamins.

I was hoping to find a prenatal that would actually get along with my system. If not, I'll have to take something additonal like colace.

But since we're not actively going to start TTC until September, it seems like a long time to be backed up before actually getting pregnant (and then who knows how my body will respond to that!). Chat Icon

I would DEF speak to your doctor about that then. There's no reason why you should be backed-up until then!

He's a big advocate for prenatals at least 6 months before trying, so I'm sure he'll want me to try a few different brands (they're just so darn expensive). Now if they were generous and gave me several FREE samples, then maybe, just maybe it woulnd't be as painfun on my pocketbook.

I understand that but to be honest, I took prenatals for a year and a half before I even got preggo (with DC#1) (I was taking them to help my hair grow lol) I didn't get backed up from them until I got preggo.

You know you can take a regular multivitamin instead and just take an additional folic acid instead, right? And you can buy generic.

Re: Duet prenatal vitamins - ?

i am using duet chewables and i have no problems going at all. i only got constipated once and that was when i was on vacation, so it probably wasn't the prenatals.

Re: Duet prenatal vitamins - ?

I'm on OTC prenatals.... (Target brand) + expecta DHA.

I was never constipated prior to pregnancy.... During pregnancy, well, that's another story Chat Icon

It might also be a good time to make sure you're eating enough fiber and drinking enough water.

Personally, I am trying to avoid using any meds like cholase. Being diligent and having enough veggies, fruits, and water usually keeps me normal.

However, the second I fall off the wagon and consume less fiber and water, I'm automatically punished Chat Icon

I take them and yes the do constipate me, badly. I think any prenatal at this point would do the same, so when I take my prenatal just before bed, I take it with 2 colace and things have been 100% better!

I used Duet w/ my DS and am using them again - I like them so much that I pay out of pocket for them (my insurance doesn't cover themChat Icon ) Normally, I have "bathroom' issues" and these have never given me a problem !
