DS won't keep shoes or socks on

My 1 year old will not keep any shoes or socks on. At home he is usually in footed pajamas so it's not an issue, but at daycare they keep telling me he rips off his socks the minute he gets in and his feet get so cold throughout the day they turn blue. I've tried every kind of shoe or bootie I can find (elastic, velcro, snaps) and he won't keep anything on. He is just learning to walk so I don't want to put a heavy shoe on him that will impede his walking.

Any suggestions?

He's very young. It's a phase and he'll outgrow it. Just try to be consistent and tell him when he's not at home, he needs to keep his shoes and socks on. Daycare needs to do the same. But if he's just learning to walk, shoes aren't really necessary until he's walking outside.

Agreed.

Also make sure whatever is on his feet is fitting correctly. It's probably a phase but just make sure he's not also uncomfortable.

I disagree - if he's learning to walk, go to Stride Rite and get him a good pair of sneakers! He may be ripping them off because whatever you are putting on him now does not fit correctly.

My son used to do that too when his shoes were starting to get tight, but he couldn't communicate that to me until he was closer to 2 years old. My son was an early walker (10.5 months!) and so I used to bring him for shoes/size check every 2-3 months. He almost always needed a new pair at 3 months because they grow so quickly. Whether he was home or not I used to put his sneakers on him so that he learned to walk properly and not by curling his toes under for balance.
