DS suddenly hates high chair

My ds cries hysterically lately when i go to put him in the high chair for a feeding! I don't know what to do. I had to feed him in his car seat today. He's been doing this for 2 days now. Has anyone been through this? I don't know what to do!

TJ does this too. if I put him in the high chair and dont feed him fast enough he gets crazy. I dont give in anymore. I make him stay in his high chair. I don't want to start a habit I'll never be able to break.

I can't get near him with food when he's in his high chair - he twists his body and looks up to the ceiling. I left him in there to CIO before but he got so hysterical, i had to move him out. :(

Re: DS suddenly hates high chair

How old is DS?

My DD started this a couple months ago, after about age 1. I knew she was testing her boundaries and toddlers are just too busy to sit and eat. I made a point to tell her, it's breakfast time, then i would take her into the kitchen and hold her or let her see me prepare her breakfast. When she sees it, she'll sit in her highchair and eat. If she throws a fit, i don't force her, i just put her down and try again in a couple mins. It works everytime.
Her Highchair is for eating, she doens't sit in it, she doens't eat at that time. I haven't given in one time, and mealtimes have remained positive. I didn't want to start bad habits either. So far so good! Now she knows how to talk more and understand more, we can tell her when she can get down and she knows when it's eating time.

exactly what I do. To me, if my DD/DS is really hungry, they'll eat and not make a fuss about it.

Good luck.

Andrew really has never been a fan of the high chair. We are a feed on the go family.

DS is only 7 months old. What could be getting him so upset? He's never had a problem eating in his high chair up until now...

Re: DS suddenly hates high chair

Maybe his feeding schedule has changed and he's not hungry when you are used to him eating. Part of the problem with TJ is getting him to eat his veggies.

I've never had a problem with DD. Is there something that is pinching him or bothering him in the chair? He is eating when you use the car seat, so he must be hungry. Hopefully its just a phaseChat Icon

I'd try to keep mealtimes positive, and if he's hungry enough he'll eat. try and try again. I wouldn't let him scream in the highchair, you don't want him to associate the high chair with feeling frustrated and upset. If he cries, take him out, then try again in 5-15 mins, that's what i would do :)

at 7 months my dd went through a solid refusal phase, nothing in this world would open her mouth for food. I just kept tyring and if she didn't eat, she didn't eat. My PED feels strongly that solids for babies before age 1 are just for practice, formula/bm are just fine to sustain them.

Hang in there!Chat Icon Remember it takes 3 days to start a habit, 2 weeks to break it!
