DS has a bad cough....should I take him to the ped?

DS (12 months) has a really bad cough. it was terrible last night. He was up at 3am coughing, crying, just couldn't get comfortable. He literally sounded like he was barking. I don't think it is the croup because I think he would still sound like he was barking, right? His crib is elevated and there is already a humidifier in his room. Should I take him to the ped? I'm nervous about tonight and tomorrow being that it is NYE. Thoughts? TIA!

Re: DS has a bad cough....should I take him to the ped?

DS had this a few weeks ago (15 months). The cough was kind of barking, but not croupy. We didn't go to the ped because he only ran a fever for a day, and it went away in about 3 days.

In addition to elevating his mattress and using the cool mist humidifier, we steamed up the bathroom for his baths and used the baby vicks on his chest.

Re: DS has a bad cough....should I take him to the ped?

DS had a barking cough in the beginning of Dec. I called the PED because he seemed so uncomfortable, he would cry after every cough. They wanted to see him right away not because of the cough but because of the crying. She said it could be an indication of a bronchial infection.

If he is crying as if the cough hurts him, I'd give the PED a call. Actually, I'd probably call regardless just to ease my mind, but DS doesn't get sick often so I tend to worry when he does Chat Icon

This is what happened to my DS- 12 mos. He had the croupy cough for 1 night and I took him to the ped. and he gave him a steroid as well. The barking cough ended and now he has a different cough. It sounds like it is breaking up. The dr. said that the barking cough would end and he would have a cold.

Hope you DS feels better!
