DS acting up in class
DS is 7 and started first grade. He goes to catholic school and started there last year in K. (B/c of his birthday and cut off he did K twice).
DS has always been a model student, but I got a letter home that his teacher wanted a meeting with me and Dh about some behavioral issues.
SO I met with her yesterday morning before school, and DS was with me at the meeting. She says he does great work and focused and she sees a great leader in him, but lately has been doing stupid stuff. Like putting his feet out when someone walks by, talking, acting up in the bathroom when they all go on their bathroom break. and then b/c other kids like him and look up to him, some of them then follow suit with the laughing. We do have a girl in the class who is extremely disruptive (not sure what is going on there), but DS laughs at what she does and then others follow.
They have a behavior chart that they have to fill in at the end of the day and I have to sign every night. They start at purple which is the best, then goes to blue, green, yellow, orange and red. Yellow is slow down / stop /think; and he has 3 of those this month, and mostly all within the last week. The rest were purples, greens, blues.
So Dh and I had a long chat at dinner about respecting the rules, and his teachers, etc. Listening has been an issue the past few weeks in our home too.
after that was all done, his teacher emailed me and told me that even after our meeting Jack threw a pencil across the room, and was caught throwing toilet paper over the stall door (he was out of the stall his friend was in the stall). DS said his friend threw it first and he was throwing it back, but still..not cool.
I almost lost my sh*t last night after I read that.
We've taken away a few of his favorite privileges and he will have to earn them back. He's lost going to his friends halloween party this weekend too unless he gets his act together in school.
I've asked his teacher to keep me updated as to what is going on and I will keep track of his progress with a chart at home where he can earn his privileges back.
I know kids will be kids sometimes, but this is out of the norm for him. Hoping its a phase that ends real quick. He gets a lot of homework for first grade and I think the transition from K to 1st has been a bit rough (as I've heard the same from a lot of other parents in the class). which is another issue..over an 1hr of homework every night. in 1st grade.

Re: DS acting up in class
I had similar issues in K with DS. He was the youngest in the class (lots of redshirting) and I chalked it up to extreme immaturity in OUR case.
We started a daily reward system based on behavior chart. We wrote back and forth with the teacher. We spoke every day with DS about how to handle issues that teacher highlighted (like not being the leader of the line, etc), we put him to sleep 45 minutes earlier, we became very strict with punishment in our home (you don't listen after I tell you something once, you get a time out)... who knows what worked. He really improved and stopped acting out towards the end of the school year. He only had additional handwriting homework as the school doesn't give real homework under 3rd grade (so HW wasn't our issue).
This year, he's doing great. Good luck. It's very hard to deal with behavior.
