Driving in the city...got any tips?

Any and all are welcome! I feel like every time we go, it's a fiasco even though we know the city.

And don't drive is not always the answer Chat Icon

Re: Driving in the city...got any tips?

When I come home to NY I always drive into the city, its easy and I say treat it like a video game, try to get in front of everyone else on the road, because you DEFINITELY want to be waiting at the light IN FRONT of that taxi that was going slowly, then going very quickly, then going slowly again. Just beep at as many other cars as you can, and cut a few off (just because you can) Weave in and out of traffic just to annoy everyone else, and stop alot to look at the sights. If you hit a pedestrian LIGHTLY, its okay, as long as they don't fall down or they aren't bleeding (same goes for cyclists and hot dog trucks)

Just follow my directions, and bobs your uncle. Easy driving in Manhattan!!

Tips how?

I don't find driving in the city difficult. But we lived there for 5 years and my parents live alllll the way uptown, so I always drive to their house.

Just remember, its a gridChat Icon Makes it hard to get lost IMOChat Icon

I always try to drive in the middle lanes of the avenues because cabs stop short in the side lanes and it freaks me out.

If you don't know exactly where a location is, you can drive slower, but don't drive too slow. If you pass it, just circle around. I see a lot of people jamming on their brakes when they are lost and cause mayhem.

I mean, I know about the rules of the streets and all, but I guess I mean getting in and out. Best routes, avoiding tolls, things like that. Chat Icon

Depends on where you are going....

The Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges are free, you mean, stuff like that?

Drive in the middle lane (less manuevering around people trying to make turns) and try to stay as far away from any yellow cabs....for the most part they have no respect for any driving lawsChat Icon
