Dreading my 1st Childbirth Class tonight
DH is MAKING me to go these - 4 classes for the next 4 weeks on Thrus night from 7:30 - 10 ........ Next week is Lamaze breathing which I am totally over b/c I have absolutely no interest ........ but the rest are all informational re: What happens when you go into labor, @ the hospital, in the deliver room etc etc ...........
I REALLY do not WANT all of this information. All I want to know is how to tell the signs of labor and to call my Dr. and have him tell me where to go from there -
Effing DH MUST know EVERYTHING about EVERYTHING !!!

No, my DH just needs to be a know it all ........He works in Hospital Admin and always says he should have become a Dr. - So he LOVES this stuff - which is fine - for him. But I don't want to know all of the scary details until the very last second - HE would rather know what to expect, I prefer to take the ignorant route !!

Re: Dreading my 1st Childbirth Class tonight
DH and I took the all day class a few weeks ago
It really is helpful- even the breathing which I too was over first
BUT when I had a bad case of Braxton Hicks a few days ago- that breathing stuff actually came in handy! Don't knock it just yet!

Re: Dreading my 1st Childbirth Class tonight
i'll be honest, i didn't want all the info either. too much info that just made me more nervous than anything else.
(plus, extremely little of what i learned applied to my labor experience - i definitely had no time to "light candles and create a comfortable labor environment" since i woke up in active labor and went directly to the hospital...)
anyway, i went to the first class and then boycotted the rest... i think that if you don't want to go you should stay home!

Re: Dreading my 1st Childbirth Class tonight
Definitley go with an open mind...with my son I went to these classes and I had a demerol birth...So I slept in between the contractions but when they hit oh man did it hurt and I'll be honest...the breathing really helped me relax...I also had an awesome lamaze couch...so when the pain was so bad...and I forgot how to breath or couldn't even open my mouth he helped me focus...
With my DD I had a complete natural birth due to it moving to quickly and I never went to lamaze or a birthing class with my husband and I honestly think the pain would have been more tolerable and there would have been less screaming if I actually took this class and remembered how to breathe...Have fun tonight...and like someone else said..after go to Friendly's or something!!
The only thing I remember from my lamaze class over 9 years ago...my son will be 9 tomorrow was to relax your body as much as you can because the more relaxed you are the faster you dialate!!!

Re: Dreading my 1st Childbirth Class tonight
Are you going at Trongone's office? We took it there and some of the info was helpful but she's an older woman and felt that she was a little outdated. But, she did have alot of knowledge about NSUH which I found to be pretty helpful. As for the lamaze techniques, when I gave birth, I really tried breathing but all I wanted was the effing epi! The last class involves slides of a woman who had a vaginal delivery, no meds, and an episiotomy. Needless to say, DH and I left early. Who needs to see that?
