Re: Dr. Kofinas Question......
He doesn't deliver. You would see him for high risk pregnancy along with your regular ob/gyn. He is affiliated with Winthrop, but does not do deliveries. If you are looking for a maternal-fetal medicine doctor since you are expecting twins that delivers you may want to look into North Shore Maternal Fetal Medicine. I used them when I was carrying DS and was extremely high risk. Dr Vohra delivered DS and was really good. If you need more info you can check out North Shore LIJ website or FM me.

Re: Dr. Kofinas Question......
Dr.Kofinas is great but like the pp said, he does not deliver. He also is very limited with which doctors he is willing to work with. He works a lot with Dr.Pillitteri who I would only recommend using if he was the last dr on earth... and even then I'd have my hesitations
I know he also works with the OBs at university plaza who I have not used but have heard great things.

Re: Dr. Kofinas Question......
Thanks girls! I honestly don't know what to do. I want to find a High Risk/perinatologist that's closer to home.... seriously I'm sooooooo over that drive to Manhassett.
Does anyone know of one in RVC or Garden CIty?

Dr.Kofinas is in Garden City. I absolutely recommend him... Just not paired with dr Pillitteri as the OB. As a peri, dr Kofinas is as good as you will get! I loved him and his office.

Kofinas is in Garden City. Do you have to go to him? He treats thrombo issues and placentia previa and stuff. Im sure other stuff too.
Or are you just looking for a high risk OB who delivers?

Re: Dr. Kofinas Question......
You can try Winthrop Perinatal Associates. They have 4 or 5 doctors but only one does deliveries now.

I agree with Pennycat about Dr. Kofinas. Call his office and see what OB's he works with but I would also recommend staying away from Pillitteri.
I saw Kofinas and Pillitteri for my DD and I loved Kofinas and his entire office staff. Pillitteri is a one man show and his office is always jam packed and the wait times are ridiculous and his exams are too quick for my liking. He is a nice and personable person but for my next PG I want an OB that is more interactive and wants to give me more of their time.

LOL, couldn't agree more! University Plaza is well regarded though and is right in Garden City. GL and congrats!

Re: Dr. Kofinas Question......
No, I was just looking for someone closer to my house and who delivers at South Nassau, if possible. Is that bad? Should I just stick w/North Shore?

Honestly, with twins my main concern would be the NICU, just in case. What level NICU does S. Nassau have? Winthrop might be worth the little bit extra drive.

I think PurpleC deliver there. I could be wrong though. Did Flowerwife too? I'm trying to remember from the last gtg.

Re: Dr. Kofinas Question......
The maternal fetal medicine dept. At LIJ is amazing. They do not deliver but i saw them throughout my pregnancy. Also, some doctors claim to be high risk and are not true perinatologists. I did not know that when i graduated from my RE. through my search i found most perintologists do not deliver but work with your primary OB throughout. Congrats!!!

Re: Dr. Kofinas Question......
I recommend Kofinas as well as Pillitteri but seems they're not exactly fitting your locale!
PurpleC did deliver at LIJ, loved her OB but she didn't see a Peri. Her DS was in the NICU at LIJ for quite some time too. I also have another friend who saw a high risk, affiliated with Winthrop. Her DS is in the NICU there now.
I'd make some consultations based on your research and some recommendations.
I'm suppose to see the OB and Peri equally, every 2 weeks but I've been seeing the Peri weekly. They're really the boss!

i delivered at LIJ. Em was in the NICU there for a few days shy of one month. i have only good things to say about the NICU there. i liked LIJ as well (other than one annoying situation which is resolved now that the rooms are private) and it is SOO SOOO SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better now that they opened the brand new Woman's Hospital. all the rooms are private and hotel-like there now. i am looking forward to delivering there again some day.
however i didnt see a peri. i wonder if my outcome would have been different if i had. i was borderling high risk and dr. B said i didn't HAVE to although it wouldn't be crazy if i did. my OB said if he saw any red flags he'd let me know..in the end, which happened SO quickly, there was no time for red flags or peris although i did see the MFM at LIJ who was just OK (she was just the on call MFM though).
anyway long story short, i like LIJ but never saw dr. K although i would consider it in the future if my pregnancy warrants a high risk dr. but i want to go vbac next time so we'll see what happens

Re: Dr. Kofinas Question......
I do want the best for my babies- i really do. I just live across from South Nassau...ack!
I keep seeing that "so-and-so doesn't deliver". does that mean that my peri won't? I'm gonna have a stranger that day?

Most true peri's don't deliver. They sort of "dictate" your care through the reg. OB. There are some "hi-risk" OB's out there and they deliver but peris (aka Maternal Fetal Medicine Docotors) are really a different discipline. Maybe look for an office that has a peri right in the practice. Call around and see what you can find!
ETA: Your OB will deliver and they won't be a stranger b/c you'd be seeing one all along as well as a peri.

Right I was going to say this as well. You see BOTH the ob and the peri.
I saw a peri in my first pregnancy, Dr.El Kady who I really liked as well (saw Dr. Kofinas with my last pregnancy since we knew about the clotting issues and he specializes in that... ) Anyway, she was great too - but located at Good Sam.
I figured I'd just throw that out there in case someone comes across this in a search and finds that rec helpful! What happened to my first baby was devastating, but I thought it was handled well through her office, more or less...

ShhhTTCin11 delivered her son at 30 weeks, and he is currently in the NICU at South Nassau. I'm sure she can give you her input about the care there. Overall though, Winthrop has a higher-level NICU.
I have a great OB, Dr. Melissa Glasser-Caine, who delivers at South Nassau, but that doesn't help you with the perinatologist. I believe that she works closely with Madonna perinatal in Mineola when necessary, but thankfully I've only had to go there for sonos, not to see the perinatologist.

Re: Dr. Kofinas Question......
Thanks Jax! I've heard great things about glasser-caine but I'll be high risk.
I guess I will be going to Klein.... I think he's the one they recommend most at NS LIJ and I've heard great things about their NICU

Re: Dr. Kofinas Question......
My son is in the NICU at South Nassau. He is receiving good care there, but was also 3 lbs when he was born. South Nassau is only a level 2 NICU... And since he was born, we have already seen 2 sets of twins come in and end up getting transferred to a higher level NICU at another hospital because they were too small (I think less than 2lbs).
I'm comfortable with my son being there- but had I known months ago what I know now, we would have delivered at Winthrop or LIJ. Good luck!!!!!!
