Dr. Amy Goldberg - Review & RAVE!
We had our first appointment on Monday evening.
I had used Branch Pediatrics prior to this, since my son was born. While I love Dr. Richard Ancona and I loved Dr. Minneo -- Dr. Minneo left following a car accident, and Dr. Richard is not available as often.
So, what would end up happening is we would be seeing a revolving door of doctors and even then, we would often wait at least an hour to an hour and a half to get IN the room and then it was another hour or so until we were done. It was a lot, honestly. Vin and I work full-time and Julian is often going to the doctor after our workday is done, so at 6/7/8pm when the kid is usually out cold and in bed by 6:30pm, the latest - it's a lot.
Then, the issue is we always seem to have someone different so I felt like I had to "bring them up to speed" on my son - A LOT. The staff behind the desk is almost never friendly. And never informative or helpful.
The other issue with this is different opinions - if I asked Doc #1 "when should I start a multivitamin?" I got, "at four months". Then, I would ask Doc #2 at the four/five month mark for a script for the vitamin and they would say, "I don't want to start that until six months, the earliest". Then, we would be with Doc #3 and he'd be like "why isn't he on a multivitamin yet??"
UMM - can all of you guys get together and land on the same page please?!
So, I determined that I need a doctor who is either a one-doc practice or maybe two docs, I could handle two. So, fine. I searched and asked around - had a very interesting time trying to find the right one. Finally, we landed on Dr. Goldberg.
Going on Monday evening, I brought the initial paperwork with me - the person who made the appointment on the phone was very nice and suggested I fill it out ahead of time. They confirmed the appointment. Great. Then, when we arrived, they took our information, was pleasant, and we waited MAYBE ten minutes max to be called back. Then, we waited about five minutes for the doctor to come in. SHE APOLOGIZED FOR THE DELAY when she came in the room. after I picked myself up off the floor from the shock of that - we got to talking about Julian and I had questions about his vaccination schedule.
Now, the other office acted like me wanting to space out the shots A LITTLE - nothing crazy - just A LITTLE was out-of-my-mind INSANE and that I should be living in South Oaks full time. Then, when one or two didn't suggest calling the police on me and were on board about spacing them out a little, they acted like the "coming up with a plan of HOW to space them out" was like doing nuclear physics. It was like really taxing on them to try and figure this shit out.
Dr. Goldberg asked me a few questions, looked at his records of what he already had done, and had a plan of action of what shot to do and when in about HMM two+ minutes. She wrote it down in Julian's chart so that I don't have to remember - WOW, what a concept!!!! And that was that. I didn't know what to do with myself. It was amazing.
Then, she gave him his flu shot. Tickled him before, got him to giggle, was very loving with him and after she gave it to him she consoled him and he was FINE in a matter of seconds.
She asked a bunch of questions - passed NO judgment to the few things you could see she would probably do differently - and was very open minded to the few "what should I do about this??" stuff I presented her with. She NEVER came across as preachy or as condescending -- which was the BIGGEST problem I had with the other office, in particular, with Dr. Keith Ancona (Richard's son). I mean, anything I asked he looked at me like, YOU mongrel IDIOT, HOW do you not know this?!
I asked Dr. Amy about an emergency line and she said, oh no worries, here's my cell (hands me card) - just give me a call, anytime, any day/night when you have a problem and I'll direct you with exactly what to do.
I practically had to be taken out of there on a stretcher at this point. Days later, I'm still in shock.
What a breath of fresh air. Cute office, nice environment. We were in, seen, done, follow up appointment, and checked out within ehhhh fifty minutes.
And NO ONE called him Julianna!!! Amazeballs!! No one said, is SHE up to date on her vaccines??
Julian Lennon can attend this office if he needs to, for any reason, as they will know how to pronounce his name! And, in addition, they will refer to him as a male!
Dr. Amy gets just about my highest recommendation! Five stars!
Thanks for the read and I truly hope this helps someone

Dr. Amy Goldberg - Review & RAVE!
We've been with Dr. Amy since my son was 3 months old. DS was born at 28 weeks and spent some time in the NICU. We started at Stony Brook Peds and after leaving their office 3 times in tears, I found her. She is truly amazing. Knows every child by name. Often when you call the office she answers the phone herself. Forms are always fills out quickly. Listens to every question or concern and never rushes. When DS was on formula, he was on a specialty formula. When we stopped I had a bunch left and called her to see if she had a patient that could use it. She immediately knew who to call. She works with insurance and fights to get what the kids need. Our insurance wouldn't cover. Nebulizer and she was able to get us 1 for free. I can't say enough about her. My cousin uses her and I have referred endless people to her and everyone loves her.

Re: Dr. Amy Goldberg - Review & RAVE!
This weekend Julian had a runny nose and a cough, nothing crazy but I always like to get it checked to make sure his ears are clear and there's no ear infection.
So, Saturday morning I called the "emergency" number that Dr. Amy gave us - which is her cell! LOL So she answers and she's like I'm actually on my way to the office now, so just bring him by!
And mind you, we have seen her ONCE - and she remembered Julian, specific details and everything.
We go in, the receptionist immediately was like Oh Julian you're back! I mean, it is amazing how you aren't a number there.
Both the doc and receptionist commented on how they liked his Christmas card - I had sent one to the office the week prior.
Very nice!!!!

Re: Dr. Amy Goldberg - Review & RAVE!
What a great informative review. My son's doctor has just recently left the practice we have been going to for the past two years. She was amazing. I haven't met the replacement yet but if I don't love her this is good to keep in mind. Is the building brick? Like tan brick? If so, I went here when I was little. It was a different dr then who now has probably retired but I think it's the same office !
ETA OMG it is ! Dr. Seymour Musiker used to own it and be my dr !

Were you there around 9:45-10:00? I think we were in the office when you were. My girls were playing on the floor with the blocks and I remember the little baby boy was named Julian. What a small world!

Oh that's so funny -- was that you and your husband and the two little girls with the GORGEOUS hair??
My Julian just loves to take toys from other kids -- and I think he tried to take the one thing your DD was playing with! And I'm like really Julian? You have a million toys to choose from but you want the ONE that someone else has
That's funny!!

Thanks so much for sharing this! My dd also goes to Branch pediatrics and I have all the same issues with them - ridiculously long wait times, drs. not on the same page, rude staff, etc. But I was hesitant to switch to a single doctor practice bc I thought the wait times would be even longer. Its good to know you had a great experience with this doctor and I think I will see if she will take dd on as a patient too.

I think it all has to do with scheduling. If the scheduling is done properly, it should run a lot smoother -- of course, emergencies and unexpected things can happen, but that's usually once in a while and not the norm. At Branch, it was the norm to wait hours. And to wait that long and then get mediocre care, that is when I drew the line.
GL, Hope it helps!
