Downs tests
I will be 37 when I deliver My son is 3 and when I was pregnant with him, I didn't have any of the testing done. I am leaning on NOT having any tests either with this pregnancy. Im curious to see if I am the only one or do a lot of you not have these tests done.

Re: Downs tests
It's such a personal decision.
We always waived those tests but this time around I had the MaterniT21 because I had a prior ectopic as well as advanced maternal age (im 35). Our insurance covered it, it told us that the baby was negative for 3 different trisomies (13, 18 and 21) and it let us know gender as well.
We would not have terminated for any reason, so it wasn't super important to have the testing done BUT for some its good to be prepared...I know if anything had come up positive I would have had more time to be prepared. good luck in your decision, there really is no right or wrong!

Re: Downs tests
I will be 38 when this baby is born #3. For my first 2 I didn't do any testing but for this one I did the NT scan and numbers came back fine. Since I was older and wanted to see the baby I did the test this time. I wouldn't have done any other tests regardless.

Re: Downs tests
It's really up to you. We did it, but even my doctor told me it was totally optional. I'm 27 so she wasn't too concerned. We did do it, but I have seen so many people get false positives I can understand why people opt out.
We opted to do it even though it wouldn't have changed anything for us, but again, it really is a personal decision. I think we just wanted to be prepared if there could possibly be problem, but we also knew we wouldn't do an amnio or CVS.

Re: Downs tests
I didn't do it with #1 because my doctor didn't very much encourage it. She said that there are too many deceiving results that give such unnecessary stress for the parents. Plus she asked if I would really consider terminating my pregnancy and when I said no, she told me the test then wasn't for me. However, I do remember being a little worried later down the road since I never had testing done (although, thank God, DD was healthy as can be). So I MIGHT get it done this time around with #2, but not sure yet. I have a little while to figure it out since I'm not very far along yet. But no, you're definitely not alone in skipping it!

Re: Downs tests
Personally, I would never opt out of (noninvasive) testing. That's just a matter of a sono and bloodwork and my feeling is if gd forbid there were a problem, I'd wanna know so I can be prepared.

Re: Downs tests
I was 35 when I got pregnant and 36 when I delivered. I had an amnio. I wanted to know with 100% certainty about everything it tested for. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Re: Downs tests
I think it is a personal choice. I personally wouldn't terminate but did the test more our of preparation if there was an issue.

Downs tests
Just had my 3rd child 6/25 I'm 40 but didnt have any other tests done besides sonos & blood work. If those showed a higher chance of birth defects then I would have opted for the MateriTY21 test...but my results came back normal.

Same here. I was 31 almost 32 when I had DD, and at this rate I will be 34 or 35 hopefully when I have another, and I'll do whatever testing is recommended at that time.

Downs tests
It's definitely a personal choice, but after crappy results from my NT Scan, I opted out of all other tests I could opt out of and only wish I opted out of the NT as well. My pregnancy was entirely too stressful and although it wasn't only because of the NT results, those were partially to blame. Yet, in the end, DD is perfect. If we decide to have another kid someday, I will opt out of all optional tests, regardless of age (I'm 32 now)

Me too. I was 38 when I delivered. I skipped the NT and did an amino at 17 weeks. So glad I did. I didn't want maybes.
