Double Stroller Experts - HELP! Need Your Opinion!

I'm in the market for a double stroller. I'm due in April and my DD will be 2yo then.
So far, the City Select is in the lead, especially since it's on clearance at BBB! I love that it's so functional and can be used as a single or double. I checked it out and was very impressed by the overall quality and construction. However, I never thought I'd like a tandem b/c it just always seemed awkward to me. On the other hand, it's probably a lot easier to get through doorways.
I'm not really sure what other options to consider. Possibly the City Mini Double? I know that's a popular one, but overall I'm not as impressed.
I guess I should mention that I am always on-the-go, don't plan on useing it for major walking or jogging (just basic neighborhood walks an the mall).
My only thought is that maybe I should just avoid a full-size, bulky, heavy double and go straight to a double umbrella like the combi or maclaren. I figure it's much lighter-weight and I wouldn't have to take it apart and reassemble each and every time I get in and out of the car (my #1 concern with the city select). Plus, I feel like no matter what, I need to get a lightweight anyway, even if just for travel purposes.
I guess my biggest question is, should I splurge on the City select AND get an umbrella (or register for one and hope someone else gets it ;) OR just be practical and go straight to the umbrella. If I do that, which one???

Re: Double Stroller Experts - HELP! Need Your Opinion!

My DDs are 14 months apart. Last year when DD#2 was born, I bought the Graco Duo Glider for the girls. I used it maybe twice and got rid of it. I was so excited that my car seat snapped right in but it was soooo heavy!! I did some research and ended up getting a Baby Jogger City Classic double. LOVE IT! It folds in half and fits easily in my vehicle (though I do have a Honda Pilot) and have a few friends who have smaller cars and it fits fine in their trunks.

In the beginning, when your new addition is a newborn, I would not be comfortable using a less substantial umbrella type stroller. I feel as though newborms need more support. So, to answer your question, I suggest any of the Baby Jogger double stollers (City Mini or City Elite since I think the City Classic line has been discontinued).

I personally felt a lot more comfortable pushing a side by side stroller than a front to back. I felt as I had more control and it made navigating a lot easier. If the Maclaren/umbrella type strollers allow for a car seat to snap in, then I say go for it. Otherwise I would consider Baby Jogger or similar types. HTH! Hope you are having a great pregnancy! This is the one I had and I had been extremely happy with it. My children are also 2 years apart and I used that thing all the time.

As for the umbrella stroller not being appropriate for a newborn, I agree. I'd only get one that supports the car seat. The umbrella stroller of choice for now is the combi twin and I think i read somewhere that you can put the carseat in, please correct me if I'm wrong though.

My issues with the bjcm is that when I've seen my friend use hers, her toddler looked sooo uncomfortable without the back support. Plus, I've hears that when you use the carseat adapter, the placement of the carseat itself is very awkward.
