No advice, except to say that is an extremely personal decision. I wish you the best of luck and hope you can come up with a solution you are comfortable with! Congrats!Chat Icon

Re: dont know where to post

First of all congrats!

Secondly, that's a really tough decision. I'm not in your shoes, so I don't know how I'd react, but are the doctors telling you that they don't think you would make it to the point where all three babies would be viable? That would really affect my decision, especially at this stage in your pregnancy.

Re: dont know where to post

I have a history of blood clots so they are worried of that and are telling me the chances for having 2 healthy babies are more realistic if I reduce down.

I have seen 5 doctors for this now, hubby is worried for my health.

We live in a 2 bedroom and both work and have noone that would be able to babysit so its really hard.

I don't know I'm so happy I'm pregnant but so sad I have this choice to make

I have to be honest - if there is no immediate risk, and they think there is only a chance, I don't know if I could make that decision on my own.

Re: dont know where to post

I'm so sorry that you and your husband have such a hard decision to make. I don't know what I would do in your shoes but My friend's cousin went thru this a couple of wears ago. His wife was pregnant with triplets and because of complications (not sure of the whole story), they did reduce to one and they have a healthy, beautiful baby girl.

I have no advice as it's such a personal choice. Good luck Chat Icon

Re: dont know where to post

My only advice is my own personal perspective. I am NOT PG yet, but hope to be.

My DH and I spoke about "what ifs" if I were PG.

What if "......" happened.?

One of those things is if there was a choice that had to be made, at some point, even during birth, between my life and a baby's life. We both agreed that my life was MUCH more important. Save me above the baby no matter what.

If I were in your shoes, and I were getting the same advice from 5 doctors, and my LIFE would be in jeopardy, AND I would have a hard time taking care of 3 children....I PERSONALLY would not hesitate, for one second, to reduce.

I want to be clear that MY choice is NOT your choice. I am NOT telling you or even suggesting what you should do. I only hope my perspective can help you figure out whats right for YOU.

My personal opinion is, is that if your life could be in jeopardy do what you need to to protect your life.

Re: dont know where to post

History of blood clots is not a definitive reason to reduce. I have the same issues and take baby aspirin every day. Others take Lovenox injections. Why are they not considering these alternatives?

Re: dont know where to post

I am on lovenox twice daily, the drs all fear that the possibility of 3 healthy twins is not all that common you hear of it but that there is more with problems than without.

I always said ooo 2 and that's it wouldn't even think twice in those just saying situations and now dealing with it its a lot harder than just saying.

I also worry about risking all 3

I agree. My real question is, why would these doctors put back 3 embryos if they didn't think it was safe for you. That's what frustrates me for you.Chat Icon

Re: dont know where to post

its a very personal decision, and you have to do what is best for you and your DH.

If I were in your shoes, I would not reduce, because I would be afraid of the complications that COULD arise from reducing. I would also have a very hard time looking at 2 babies/children after birth and always wondering about the one I reduced. it would honestly break my heart. BUT I do not look down on anyone who does this, and you have to be able to financially and mentally support these babies. 3 is A LOT! if your life is at risk (which it really doesn't seem to be because a lot of women have the same issue with just one baby) but again you should take the advice of medical professionals and make this decision with your DH.

Re: dont know where to post

If it were me, I would reduce. A triplet pregnancy is a very high risk one let alone with clotting issues. Theoretically speaking, what if a clot causes a fetal demise, then are the other 2 fetuses safe? Or other 1 if 2 are affected? That's a very good question which I do not know the answer to. Of course women have triplets all the time, but there's a high risk of complications.

Good luck with your decision, it's not easy. You are in my thoughts and prayersChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: dont know where to post

I am a triplet mother. Just had my triplets on July 2nd. I was faced with the same hard decision as you were. Back when I found out I was pregnant with triplets, my RE brought up selective reduction. My DH and I went home and spoke about it and decided that even though we knew it would be a high risk pregnancy, we were ready for it. The next week we went back to the RE for another sonogram and there were 4 sacs and 4 heartbeats. Now my RE told me that it was in my best interest to selectively reduce. I still wasnt convinced, and with much research, we decided we would go forward with a quad pregnancy. Many women had quads successfully. Unfortunately between week 7 and 8, one of the quads hearts stopped beating. I went on to having a successful triplet pregnancy. There were definitely some struggles....i was taken out of work at 21 weeks, I saw doctors every other week from the beginning and once a week towards the end. I ended up delivering my triplets at 30 weeks. Not because of pre-term labor, but my daughters blood flow through her umbillical cord became reverse and staying in the womb would be life threatening to her. So yes, delivering at 30 weeks is definitely scary and upsetting, but this problem could occur in a singleton pregnancy or a multiple pregnancy. Now my babies are almost 6 weeks old...and although they are all still in the NICU, they are doing amazing and it looks like they will be coming home within the next couple of days. Chat Icon

A triplet pregnancy is definitely scary and very involved, but I wouldnt have it any other way and couldnt imagine my life without my 3 little miracles. Selective reduction is a completely personal decision and definitely a hard decision to make and something that you and your DH have to be on the same page about. Please FM me if you have any questions or want to talk.

Good luck with your decision... I know how tough it is Chat Icon

Re: dont know where to post

I am 27 weeks PG with trips, but had no complications until my placenta previa started bleeding. Now I am on hospital bedrest until the babies are born. I would get ALL of the info and the second opinion of an MFM. Only you and your DH can make this decision for the both of you. I know a trip PG is hard, I also know a PG being on Lovenox is hard too. Tough decision, just make sure you have all the facts. Chat Icon
